Ktxx-fm 104.9 mhz "the horn" and simulcast kwnx-am 1260 khz

Beginning Monday (02/17/2014), "The Horn" (KTXX-FM 104.9 MHz and simulcast KWNX-AM 1260 KHz) will add another hour of local sports programming.

The new program is "The Halftime Show" and it will be hosted by Alex Loeb from Noon - 1:00 PM on weekdays.

This will bring the total to nine hours of local sports talk per day on weekdays. The other 8 hours are 4 hours of "Mornings with Chip & Chad" from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4 hours of "Afternoons with Bucky & Erin" from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Alex is the husband of Yvonne Nava of KVUE-TV on these two programs:
KVUE News Daybreak 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM
KVUE Midday News 11:00 AM to Noon

Someone on the other board (unless that was you posting under a different name) posted a comment along the same line as yours in response to my post about "The Horn".
I am posting on both boards to help the activity on both of them.

This is what they posted:

"Nine hours of local sports talk every day, with some serious music in between. It will be interesting to see if they pull any numbers with this format. Personally, I hope so."

Interesting, but that's not me. I didn't know there were other radio discussion forums. Thanks.

I was listening to Bucky & Erin on "The Horn" this week and they said that a former guest that was on their program multiple times now has a sports program on a Chicago station.

The new station is WGN-FM, 87.7 MHz, “The Game”, a new all-sports talk radio station in Chicago.

The host that they mentioned was Howard Griffith. Howard Griffith played football for the University of Illinois and holds the NCAA record for touchdowns in a game with eight. He was in the NFL from 1991 to 2001. This is his Wikipedia page where I found that information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Griffith

I thought some of you that follow radio trivia would be interested in the following information:

The station is actually a low-power TV station. It has a limited life because in September of 2015 the FCC is forcing all low-power TV stations to stop broadcasting in analog.

Although this is a Chicago station I am posting this on the Austin/San Antonio board because they were discussing it on an Austin station ("The Horn").

This is where I found out about the TV-related and time sensitive information:

[It was in the video within the article.]

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-wgn-the-game-0218-biz-20140218,0,5521004.story

This might not be of any interest to anyone here but from what I have read, some of you enjoy learning about this type of information and might want to follow what eventually happens to the station.

This is their programming schedule:

I wish they would dump Sports (with the exception of the San Antonio Spurs) and either go Classic Hits all the time, or replace the sports with Talk with hosts like Mark Levin. I would listen to the station more. Also they should drop the 106.9 the Point style 80's pop music from their rotation.

Beginning 05/05/2014 (Monday), 104.9 The Horn is going from 9 hours of local sports programming to 13 hours (an increase of 4 hours).

This will be the new schedule:

6 AM – 10 AM
Mornings With Chip & Chad

10 AM – 1 PM
The Alex Loeb Experience
(Alex had been on from 12 Noon to 1 PM so his program will now be 3 hours instead of 1 hour.)

1 PM – 3 PM
Hit’em With Geoff Ketchum of Yahoo! Sports Radio
(This is a new addition to the programming.)

3 PM – 7 PM
Afternoons With Bucky & Erin

Ill be going back to my ipod for listening to great classic rock music. I'm tired of giving austin's radio stations a change. No new or recent hits to be mixed in.

Great less time to listen. 6AM to 7PM, but I have noticed more sports than Classic Hits already. I hope the Fringe flops so they can move the Sports over to 105.3
If I wanted Indie, I would tune to 93.3, or that 103.1

Pandora is your friend.

I never really liked Pandora plus you got to deal with bandwidth issues if your not on your network. I don't mind sports talk at least their keeping it local.
