KUIC drops the "point," freshens music mix and presentation

In the last week or so I've noticed they no longer refer to themselves as "95 point 3, KUIC," but "95 three, KUIC." Gone is the longtime positioning statement "The Best Hits of the '80's, '90's and Today" and along with it many of the "best hits" of the '70's and '80's. For reasons I could never understand, KUIC regularly played songs going back to the mid '70s ("My Life," by Billy Joel and a handful of songs from The Eagles, for example) but followed them directly with their "Best Hits of the '80's, '90's and Today" sweeper... did they really think they were pulling one over on us? But I digress... Anyway, most songs before 1990 have been pulled and replaced with a much more upbeat and current playlist that includes songs never played when first released, such as "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani heard today in the 5 o'clock hour. The station's new mix seems to better reflect the ethnic diversity of its service area and today's drive time DJ was new as well. I think he identified himself as "Tom Cruise," but he reminded me of a jovial JJ Jackson. I always thought of KUIC as "the KOIT of Solano County," but now it sounds more like "the Alice of Solano County." I'm glad to hear these changes and think the station was long overdue for a refresher. Thoughts?

I know lots of small businesses in Solano County will air KUIC over their PA system or radio systems.
Well what happens at KUIC will affect how KKIQ and KKDV handle their music play lists.

Just judging from listening online and checking Yes.com, it appears that a major "conjunction" has taken place: KKIQ, KKDV and KUIC appear to be in a simulcast (or at least a shadowcast) for most hours of the day - still checking to verify.

Unless, of course, they've been simulcasting for awhile and I never realized it...sorry if I missed it and that's the case.

Just more computerized junk. I guess it's necessary for people who don't know how to program music.

In the past they had some simulcast and some separate programming. To me it seemed like a waste when they could have simulcast all stations with trip cues to run local spots at each station. But even so, to me it seems that the Vacaville to Livermore corridor is really a single market, and a tire store in Walnut Creek would be likely to get customers from as far away as Livermore or maybe even Vacaville. I remember that when I worked at little KWUN in Concord (now defunct) they sold from San Ramon to Martinez and even Pittsburg at times.
