KVOD 88.1 Denver (Lakewood) heard in Northern IL during a rainstorm!

This afternoon, about 1:38 pm Central, I'm driving home, and
try "spinning the dial"...noticed a strong Classical station at
88.1 FM overriding the usual Family Radio out of Milwaukee.
Then the RDS lights up as WWW.KVOD.ORG That's great!
(I'm in Northern Illinois just east of Crystal Lake)

So checking on radio-locator.com, KVOD is 1200 watts ERP,
at 7700 feet above sea level. I was able to hold on to the
signal for at least 10 minutes during a rainstorm with most
of the sky cloudy. Also checked the dial real quick
and there was an NPR station interfering with WMBI-FM 90.1,
however, I could not identify the location or call letters
(possibly could have been KCFR from Denver with much more
power than KVOD has - 44kW vs. 1.2kW ERP) Both stations
appear to be broadcasting from almost the same location near
Lakewood, Colorado.

Shouldn't write-off being able to hear FM DX in a rain shower
or cloudy conditions!

Hi Rayscuba

Congrats on snagging that 1200 watter.

Here in southeastern Wi at about the same time 1-2:30 PM for me, I heard a strong country station on 97.9 over WLUP. The RDS on my portable read "KISS COUNTRY". Turned out to be KISK, Cortez, CO. I got 1 more ID'd beofre I had to leave for work. What a bummer.

92.3 KJYE Grand Junction, CO "Colorado 92-3"
97.9 KIXZ Cortez, CO "Kiss Country 97.9"

E skip (which is what brought us these stations) uses a different layer of the atmosphere & is not efected much by weather.
