KWTX-Waco and KFMK-Round Rock/Austin to be sold per CC deal

I read it from a link on www.radiodailynews.com. Both AM and FM to be sold in Waco, plus KFMK in Round Rock (when did the KFMK calls leave Houston? Or is that very old news?!?)

And that station is KBRQ, not KWTX.

KFMK Round Rock went on in probably 1999. They were on the list of available call letters when the station was ready to be launched, so we took them.

To make the package complete Johnny Goyen formerly of KFMK Houston was on the station for several years.

Try this link (tho it wasn't the original one I got the KWTX info from, it does indeed reference KWTX): http://ftp.media.radcity.net/ZMST/CCList731.pdf

Ahh, ok. Honestly, I haven't listened to KFMK (Houston) since the mid-80s while going to school at TAMU. I've got some 1962 airchecks from the Houston version. It was all easy listening way back then.

So which station might this be, being sold? If KBRQ (the bear) gets sold, it might actually improve and play more alternative/newer rock instead of the over-played oldies a million times a day.

As far as KWTX, it might help to balance out the (local horrible guy) - Glenn Beck, Rush, Hannity, Savage, Rusty humpries; with something a little more left. Clear channel owns all but 1 music channel around here, and the 1 talk AM.

I think The Bear sounds great...they play 80's Rock on the weekends with House of Hair, Pantera/Avenged Sevenfold/etc. during the week (with some classics added in to the mix)...I think it's the best of both worlds (and no, I don't work there). I don't know what other stations you are listening to, but The Bear IS playing all the new releases. BTW, being sold does not mean squat when it comes down to playlists. As a matter of fact, you are not even gauranteed that the format will remain the same. I will give Clear Channel this (because I have seen it personally), they research the hell out the music for each market...whether you want to believe it or not. I have worked for various companies, and none of them have the money budgeted to do what Clear Channel does when it comes to researching what people want to hear.

As far as the am station goes...liberal radio does not make money (see Air America). They have the TV networks for that. ;)

I agree they have a diverse playlist --- but they overplay the classic songs. I don't mind the older music,
but they could at least choose a different song by the same artist.

Have you actually listened in the past month or two? The Bear is skewing significantly younger these days...
active rock with an occassional Skynyrd, SRV, Zep, Doors, Jimi, or Pink Floyd song.
