KYLD's Jazzy Jim and Joe Breezy Terminated Over Prank

From All Access:

An APRIL FOOLS prank at CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic KYLD (WILD 94.9)/SAN FRANCISCO has cost PD 'JAZZY' JIM ARCHER and night personality JOE BREEZY their jobs.

KYLD offered "breasts" from a DR. SANDERS. Turns out they were chicken breasts from THE COLONEL from KFC, but the winner was none too pleased about it, and made an issue of the prank.

Any quesses on who might be Jazzy's replacement?

How can some people be so dumb to think they were getting real "breasts"on a radio promotion especially when it was on April Fools Day and the doctor was Dr Sanders as in Colonel Sanders? She took the prizes and then filed a law suit. Some people have no sense of humor. Now she cost two good guys their job. I hope she is proud of herself.

Jeff Kapugi resigned his post at Clear Channel/D.C. just yesterday. A CHR Brand Manager who just happened to work under current Clear Channel/S.F. Market Manager Dave Pugh for years in D.C.? I think it is a fair guess that he is meeting up with his old boss soon in 'Frisco.

Would he preferred drumsticks instead?

That listener deserves what she got if she actually thought a radio station would give away breast implants, due to the liability alone. Not to mention the name of the giveaway and the fact that it was April Fools day.

The KYLD employees should of got at most, a slap on the wrist and even I think that would be too harsh.

This is Bull----. There are too many sheister lawyers ruining everything. People need to lighten up. The Lawyer should be disbarred for taking on a stupid suit like this. Furthermore, I think there should be a clause in the contest rules of radio stations that states that if listeners are unpleased with the pruize they receive, Tough Noogies. And if they have the audacity to file a lawsuit over it, especially after claiming and accepting the prize, then they should be charged for the price of the goods given away.

Who really gives a crap and a half that some idiot thought they were getting "Free Breasts" and then got chicken, but that's not all, also included was Kanye West Tickets and a gift Certificate to Victorias Secret. Hey, it was all free. How can you file suit against someone that gives you something for free. These people belong in a mental institution. They should be Horse Whipped.

I could go on and on for hours like this. Ugh! People SUCK!

I agree...it's BS these guys got fired...to an extent. But, we're in an era in radio where pranks, events, contests, etc. that weren't run correctly properly have caused people harm, etc. and it's the real idiots from before that have caused simple things like this to become overblown. Had they ran a little disclaimer buried in a stopset to keep the joke intact (while making tape of it)...the end result doesn't happen and the CC attorneys get to kick this back to the listener with a large "NOTHING DONE WRONG" stamp on the case file.

But it's probably cost CC 5 figures in lawyer fees to fight this during the last 3 months...plus another 5-6 figure settlement to handle covering the cost of real plastic surgery, emotional distress for being embarassed on the air, & more. I'm guessing that's what the listener's lawyer claimed.

Don't know Jim and Joe...but heard a lot of things positive about both. Jim will most likely get another CC job after the calendar becomes 2009, Joe may have to go elsewhere. CC is giving in terms of 2nd chances to good PD's with strong track records. There's a number of guys I've heard rumors of the have done MUCH worse that have still been able to stay within that company.

I'm guessing Bain Capital simply saw an easy way to cut some hefty salaries. Watch for more of this in the coming months. All Bain employees should be on their best behavior!

Hmm I wonder if she filed the lawsuit before or after attending the concerts she got tickets to? Im sure she wasnt that angry then. ::) 2 good people just lost their job because of this. If she did attend the concerts and use the gift certificates mentioned in the story on R&R that says a lot about her character.

This is a Sad Day when from what I hear two really good jocks are shown the door because somebody doesn't have a sense of humor.

I hope she chokes on those tickets

Make her drink a gallon of water and hold her pee. Then we would have a legit lawsuit. I bet co-workers won't do anything to her on Halloween or April Fools Day next year!!!

No one got hurt! Except for 2 guys (financially).

Theres a video of the contest on YOUTUBE... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4VsFRg8ZPU She seemed cool with it... Probably just some sleazy lawyer that saw a chance to cash in.And from the looks of things... I bet she ate the chicken too... ;D
Sorry... I had to.

I've listened to Wild 94.9 quite a bit with my daughter, who's in the station's demographic. I think Joe Breezy is a very talented and engaging jock, and bucks the stereotype that most young DJs are no better than liner-card readers.

But sorry - the contest was very ill-advised, and juvenile, at best. The lady revealed some personal and intimate details about her own body image on the air, and then got punked. She was obviously willing to lower herself for free breast implants. But when she didn't get them, she got angry. She played the good sport...until she left the building, and then felt humiliated and cheated. After that, she decided to get even.

I work in a totally different business, but I've learned to check with one of my agency's lawyers before I take any chances. It only takes a few minutes. Jazzy and Breezy probably didn't think to do that. If they had, they probably would have covered their a__es, even if the lawyer said to go ahead. Chalk it up to youth and inexperience. They'll land on their feet somewhere else.

I love the poetic injustice of the whole fiasco. Jazzy & Breezy thought they were making fools out of a woman. The woman ended up making fools out of them. Jazzy & Breezy are on the unemployment line. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Do you all REALLY THINK this is why they were fired? Don't be fooled by such an obvious spin.

These big corporations (especially Clear Channel) fire employees all the time, especially in this era of declining revenues by claiming the need to cut costs. Why would they need to come up with some phony ruse to terminate these two guys?

The only reason I can come up with is: perhaps CC could use the prank to claim they had violated the terms of their contracts - to avoid paying their salaries until their contracts expire. (?)
