'KZOK Knows How to Pick Songs' - in Radio World

Well done KZOK! Well whaddya know. Program and staff a station with locals and folks notice. Its sad that this is NEWS!

The local radio world would be a better place if all the satellites went dead tonight!

KZOK is a pretty good Classic Rocker. There audience gets tons of AC/DC mixed with early Chicago tunes. Somehow it works. I cringe at the Supertramp and Fleetwood selections they spin. My ex-girlfriend years ago would want to hear that stuff however.

Re: 'KZOK

hint 2: 'twas an 'early' KZOK dee-jay....

...and Norm Gregory had some input in this icon also....but it wasn't modeled after Norm's hand...

Re: 'KZOK

Good guess...

It was the hand pose from former KZOK 70's jock STEVE ACKERISH - -

The station also produced actual hand-size ceramic table figurines of the hand logo back in the 70's...

KZOK IS better at picking songs. When you got legends like Steve Slaton and Gary Crow holding the fort, KZOK is LIGHT YEARS better.

KISM up here in B'Ham, I'm sorry to say, is boring. Too few of the same songs get too much airplay. Bellingham can do better than THIS. Especially. It's full of dedicated classic rock record/CD collectors, they feel KISM is an insult to their intelligence. Which hearing some of what they got, it IS.

KZOK still has the decency to perk up some ears once in a while.....

I believe Crow and Slaton ARE the 'bricks and mortar' of the station currently...
...when THEY go - that MIGHT be it for devotees....unless Bob Rivers stays on mornings....

Thems some LONG fingers on this dude!

Re: 'KZOK

Good point Bongwater...

I believe they 'extended' thsoe fingers a little to put emphasis on the icon....but you're right!

KZOK is solid from the ground up. Promotions, PD, Talent, MD, see where I am going?

Have had the privilage to meet both Gary and Steve, as well as Stacy, Nate, Scott, and the rest of the gang.

The previous sentence speaks to why the station does well, the individuals mentioned are the indentity of KZOK.

....and if that's the case, poor Steve Akrish can't entirely claim credit. Them fingers are ALIEN!!

But WHAT an AWESOME and CLASSIC NW radio logo! Almost went insane with rage when they changed it to that bastardized KZAM logo in 1985 (and DARED to BLOW THE "OK" HAND UP on the TV commericals) during that "Quality Rock" experiment......

The "OK" hand is INDELIBLE on 102.5 MHz here in Seattle. Don't even THINK of changing it. It's here to STAY!. Because I SAID SO!

So there....

When someone named BONGWATER speaks, KZOK should listen.

DAMN RIGHT! But KZOK is cool now.......it's the OTHER stations that need to heed my advice.....

KZOK has been the station my family has listened to since I can remember.. When I was in the fourth grade, I can remember getting an ass whoopin for turning my brothers reciever to KPLZ. That was in 1980.

Great programmng, great LOCAL talent that's FROM the Northwest. They GET it. You definately have a harder time making it in Seattle rock radio when you are from somewhere else.

(insert Rob Arnie and Dawn joke here)
