REDDING/king city:

redding, go onto allaccess.com / click on arbitron and
see for your self, i would post it, but being familiar
w/ the rules, i wont take any chances / any ways
it gives the pop. and % of who is there.

king city:
on route, or to quote the song
(on the way to san jose), and yes,
i knew the way ----

i drove thru king city, over 6 years ago,
and still remember it....very CALM radio dial,
not much there, but at the same time,
what a great place to nestle a "secret"/sleeper station...

offer the best , to the few it serves!
create an amazing, hot a/c or wild-dance channel...
serving king city, cali - the best kept secret!

A Weed/Yreka FM-FM combo just sold for $925,000, both signals around 16kw each. Serving small communities, with Weed north of Shasta, and a population of 3,000, and Yreka just over 7,500. I would like to think a FM with a C-1 CP to cover a Arbitron rated community would be worth a bit more than the Weed/Yreka FM-FM combo.

If you are thinking that one C1 at Dunsmuir is worth more than two C-1's at Yreka and Weed, you need to think again. On it's best day, KZRO FM is worth about half a million. A stand alone FM has less value. Add to the fact that there are only two group owners in the Radding Market area, both have no need for another outlet, are at the FCC limit and could not buy another station even if the wanted to and both have stations with formats that are very close to the "so called" special KZRO format (Oldies in the AM and Classic Rock in PM's), KZRO has a very limited "buyer base". Just about all of the other "stand a lones" are educational - non-commercial stations. The one or two other "independent" station owners have no need for another station or can't afford to buy another station. KZRO has no "radio presence" in Redding and thus no value to a local Redding owner. The owner of KZRO has had his head "in the sand". KZRO is a "one man" train wreck with very very poor existing coverage and a small "hole in the wall" studio in Mount Shasta, 50 miles north of Redding. KZRO programs for the "Mount Shasta" area and is known as a "Mount Shasta" radio station. Even if it can or could be heard in Redding -- it's of no value unless you can sell in Redding to Redding listeners. Selling a Redding merchant a spot load to reach remote "Mount Shasta" area residents is not going to "feed the kity". It does't count. It has to serve Redding. And it can only do that by relocating it's studios and offices to Redding along with the C1 upgrade.

Steve,

With all due respect, you're as clueless as they come. Your beloved KXTO-AM in Reno, which you're always whining about, is worth more than KZRO-FM. If anyone wanted to spend $1.5 million, they could find quite a few better sticks all over northern California.

Lucky for potential buyers, Dennis Michaels is "in it for the music, not the money". Otherwise he'd be asking for $10 million.

KXTO-AM in Reno, which, is worth more than KZRO-FM
KXTO-AM was on the market not long ago for $500,000, anyone who thinks a stand alone top of the dial 2,500watt day 94 watt night that's blown away by Bakersfield on 1560 at night, and has signal problems all over Reno during the day is worth more than KZRO is smoking something!

you're always whining about
I have not said anything about KXTO in sometime.
I notice you don't have it takes to sign your name, enjoy your time under your desk!
in it for the music
Does not pay the bills!

On it's best day, KZRO FM is worth about half a million.
It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Steve

It's called an opinion Zippy!

I would pay 1.5 mil for a radio station with a true 100,000 watt ERP construction permit covering Northern California.
www.zchannelradio.com/kzro4sale_web.htm
I would not pay 1.5 mil for a station who's CP is really 14KW ERP
www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?sr=Y&s=C&call=KZrO&x=13&y=7
and being advertised as a 100kw CP, in that case the station would not be worth $250,000 to me.

As far as being clueless, Zippy!
Let see, I have over 42 years in broadcasting, I now own 10 radio networks outright, have 15 well equipped broadcast studios of my own, I also own a unique record label with a stable of over 100 artist and growing. I also know enough about broadcasting to never work for anyone again!

I also formed a non profit broadcast workshop that is currently hosting 95 students on a self contained 40 acre radio campus, in Arizona's High Desert. I have zero dept, and semi retired at 40 something, and like a well known publisher, I have allot of very nice ladies walking around the pool to photograph and fetch my beer.

Not bad for being clueless Zippy!

Now what have you accomplished in the last six years Zippy?

Happily Clueless,
poolside in the desert.

Yes Heff...I've heard about your "radio workshop" and your "ladies walking around the pool fetching your "beer". You are my hero, Mr. forty-something with 42 years in broadcasting!! ???

Hey Steve.. Wanna buy a complete Scott Studios system for your operation?

I have one for sale..

Right on the mark. The CP is a 14 KW ErP class C1 not a 100 KW C1. The coverage is only fair at best. All of the other Redding locals are a lot closer to the city of Redding on the westside. If KZRO had a higher ERP power and was closer to Redding it would be a Redding station. The new C1 CP is nothing more than a "rimshooter". The Burney site is not the best site or everyone else would be up there. The Weed C1 on 102.3 gets into Redding and the Yreka C1 on 103.9 covers Medford. Both of those stations only sold for $ 930,000. That's less than $ 500,000 each. KZRO only covers the fringe areas of Redding. It's never going to sell for over $ 700,000 on it's best day. There's no one that needs a stand alone FM in that Market. And if anyone needed another FM in Redding, they would have already made KZRO an offer. The two Group Owners can use or buy another station. No one wants or needs KZRO. So unless KZRO moves closer into Redding, it may never sell. Owners make the worst engineers. The owner wanted a "rimshooter" and he has one. Just not in the Chicago area. The 106.1 is a full power 100 KW ErP. KZRO is not. KZRO is just a 14 KW "rimshooter" and it aways will be. It has no "presence" in the Redding Market and will never be a "Redding" station. Just because a cow or a pig has 4 legs, it's not a horse. And KZRO is more like a pig or a cow than a horse. It lacks horsepower. I vote no to the KZRO Mooooove over to C1.

You are my hero, Mr. forty-something with 42 years in broadcasting!!
I realize Zippy, you were held back in school, and gave it up in the third grade to live in a oil rich town west of Bakersfield. But your poor thinking skills are rather troubling, for someone pretending to know something about broadcasting.

First: I have been retired from working for others for sometime, you do the math Zippy, with all ten of your toes.

Yes Heff...I've heard about your "radio workshop" and your "ladies walking around the pool fetching your "beer"

Now Zippy, you know that is a bold face lie! Only a moron would repeat what he hears as fact, without first verifying it. One of the first thing we teach our workshop students who plan on being journalist, is to verify information before repeating it. You don't want to ass-u-me something as fact, because of the obvious results.

Zippy, I forgot to mention! This clueless broadcaster leased out one of his operations to a group of hot girls for $2000 a month for some summer fun! Now I have some girls who want to do the same thing for spring break, coupled with a video they want to make while playing radio.

Hey Steve.. Wanna buy a complete Scott Studios system for your operation
If the price is right! We just had a system donated to the workshop, but could always use a second since the students spend allot of time learning the system.

Smart enough to recognized Zippy (Power107) for who he really is!
Enjoy life running a stinking oil town.

If I do win the lottery, I will take KZRO off DMC's hands anyway! It would be great for the kid trust!

I think I will step up my chances, and start betting $5 a week.

King city:

Theres already a Hot AC there... (not bad for micro-market radio) 102.1 KRKC

and Rhy/CHR KDON out of Salinas has a MONSTER signal in King City (I've heard it being played at gas stations there)
not to mention the new 93.9 The Mix (Rhy/Dance) which I think is actually licensed to King City.

King City could use about 8 more spanish stations though. ;D

I use to listen to KRKC in Los Osos, Baywood Park (west of San Luis Obispo) back in the late 80's early 90's, and was always impressed with it's big signal and format for a small market station.
