L.A. Ban on Raves after Death of a Teen

Why not also ban hip hop music when someone gets shot or beaten at a nightclub that plays hip hop? After all, banning the music will stop those things from happening.

First of all it wasn't a Rave. Since around 2000 promoters have been billing these events as electronic music festivals. The problem is that the SoCal electronic festival circuit is notoriously known for being a place for young candy kid ravers to party at. I may be generalizing here, but if you've ever talked to someone whose attended these events or seen photos you know exactly what I'm talking about. All you'll see in the pics is a sea of young kids with pacifiers and glow sticks (things that should have gone out of style in the mid 90s).
I think it's great to have all-ages events for the young fans of EDM, but someone needs to mind the store while the kids are at play. These events do need to be better regulated and looked after otherwise you end up with z big mess. That's exactly what happened to this country with the banking industry - nobody stopped to assess the damage control.
The EDM needs to take the initiative and play a bigger role on these issues

The ban will be on these type of festivals whether you bill them as electronic music festivals or raves. The impact will still be felt by the EDM community. Promoters do have to take accountability or else they will be shut down.

Personally, I don't think these events should be banned just because of one 15 year old who shouldn't have gotten in the event in the first place, a security staff who allowed the turn of tragic events to happen, and the people responsible for that girls death the moment she got her hands on the E.

And having experienced a lot of raves and EDMs, it is not as bad as everyone say it is. I remember going to the Narnia event in San Diego back in 1994 and even back then some of the adults bought their children there.

I agree with CHRles that something needs to be done about how these events are organized. Bans and moratoriums aren't the answer.

I have a better idea sir....How about banning a concert of every format of music since the drug fest has been in maximum stages.

Everyone said to blame raves for this yet they never blame a concert of every format of music for this drug fest.

The OP should have written an accurate subject line.

In the interest of accuracy, there is no ban on nor a call for a ban on "raves" (only the media and municipal officials call events such as EDC "raves" in 2010) in the city of Los Angeles.

There is a call for a ban on these events specifically at the venue where EDC was held, which is owned and operated by the city/county/state.

im so sick of people associating dance with drugs, most EDM fans I know are clean and sober, heavily educated, and usually have a good career.. yeah this is the answer to the war on Drugs.. After all,, in order to listen to these 4x4 beats we have to be some form of intoxicated.. ROLLS EYES.. I used to use drugs years and years back, I have been clean and sober even from Alcohol for aboujt 5 yrs, and i can tell you that drugs do absolutely nothing to make the music more enjoyable, or enhance it as they say. Now for crap like country,,,, Why not ban it for promting alcoholism and cheating and domestic abuse.... Or ban Rap for promoting DRUGS, Viloence and everything else... this makes me sick.. EDM is something that mainly Classy Adults listen to. Most Druggy kids wouldnt give EDM the time of day, and we all know this. I think its safe to say that 99.9 percent of this boards posters are well educated and drug free, or else it wouldnt be promoted on high School stations.

I don't see why a stereotype of being associated with drugs is so bad, because after all, look at the stereotypes of hip hop! That includes drugs - AND..... other stuff! Not to mention, rock n roll!! (Remember the saying "sex, drugs, & rock n roll?") So it shouldn't be a problem for dance either. I'm not sure if I can agree with if EDM wasn't drug free then it wouldn't be promoted in high school stations because hip hop is HEAVILY promoted.... seemingly EVERYWHERE!

And when you really think of it, I doubt that people REALLY think of dance being anywhere near as bad boyish and edgy as hip hop and rock n roll. At the most, those who are familiar with the stereotypes of dance and drugs most likely only believe them on a surface level. How often do you see videos on tv with thugs or gang bangers trying to sell drugs and preaching "f the police/popo's" with a bangin house beat bumpin in the back ground? If anything, if you gave people a chance to play the game "name the first genre / music that comes to mind", dance would not the first thing that came to people's mind when you say the word "drugs".

By the way, does anyone have the remix of "I got five on it"? I need it to mix with "shiny disco balls" in my next mix. ;D

I used to have the remix of I got 5 on it with Aphrodite, it was a Drum n Bass remix.. BTW,, it only had the chorus, no mentions of Drugs in it,, Just a coincidence im sure.... BTW, I realize your post was sarcasm.
