LA Kings in the STANLEY CUP FINALS: Who's playing the games?

Does anyone know who is going to cover the Stanley Cup Finals games tonight on radio?

KTLK is the official Kings radio affiliate but they have no mention to the game on their schedule or even their website.
98.7 posted this on their website and in an email:
At 987 Music is King.... We're celebrating The Kings Run for The Stanley Cup!
No Commercials during game time..... instead we go live to the game.
GO KINGS GO!!!!

Does this mean that 98.7 is going to air the games on FM?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...le-live-stream-and-more-for-stanley-cup-final

L.A. Times lists KTLK-AM as the L.A. radio home for Game 1 of the Finals. Turns out all 7 games (if necessary) will be on KTLK
and (I assume) http://www.ktlkam1150.com/main.html.

It lists WFAN-AM-660 New York as the Devils radio outlet which is incorrect for Game 1; since the NY Mets are on the FAN, the Kings-Devils match will actually be heard on-air in New York on WBBR-AM-1130 along with www.WFAN.com.

Devils radio schedule:

Game 2 Sat. 6/2 - WFAN
Game 3 Mon. 6/4 - WFAN
Game 4 Wed. 6/6 - WBBR
Game 5 Sat. 6/9 - WBBR
Game 6 Mon. 6/11 - WFAN
Game 7 Wed. 6/13 - WBBR

============

http://www.laobserved.com/archive/2012/05/kings_head_east_to_begin.php

L.A. Observed has a listing for all 7 games. KLAC-AM-570 will simulcast Game 2 on Sat. 6/2/12. There are also 6 other affiliates listed in the article linked above.

That KTLK signal is really not the most robust. They are leaving fans on the table...they should put in on KFI 640.

With on average only 17,920 fans per home game, in a radio market of 11 million, it would seem as though there's no upside to putting them on a KFI.

I think the advertisers would disagree! I bet it would have triple the audience of Lisa Ann Walter and Fake Leo Terrell on Saturday evening...

Those ESPN attendance figures are not accurate, as they include 2 "home" games played in Europe at the start of the season.

The hockey capacity of the Staple Center is 18,118 so your average of 17,920 comes very close to a sell out for each and every home game.

The radio market for hockey is not a large one unless you live on the rural prairies of central Canada. The overwhelming majority of fans prefer TV.

The predominate ethnic group in SoCal (and particularly Los Angeles proper) is Latino. Not exactly a traditional hockey market.

The Kings didn't exactly have a stellar regular season being the #8 seed in the Western Division come playoff time. I'm willing to bet that interest has really ramped up since the post-season began, especially with the demise of the Clippers and Lakers.

All the major players in the LA sports scene have changed radio homes at least once in the last decade. Why would KFI suddenly make a play for a team with one of the lowest profiles until everyone started jumping on the bandwagon?

People either forget or aren't old enough to remember KFI being a major sports player back in its "Full Service" era of Lohman & Barkley, Fruit Frost Warnings, and Standard School Broadcasts.

In the early 70s, KFI carried the LA Dodgers, USC football & basketball, the Lakers, AND the LA Kings.

They & KMPC competed for the sports fan, as KMPC carried the Angels, the LA Rams, and UCLA football & basketball.

In 1973, KFI went Top 40 (remember that?) and all the sports went away to other stations. Some people consider that move by PD Biggie Nevens to be the biggest mistake in KFI's history.

The national list is amusing -- the stations listed in the Minneapolis market are many many many miles from the Twin Cities. You'll need XM if you wanna hear it here.

Okay, they started simulcasting the game on KLAC 570 AM once the Dodgers post-game was over. Now, if they just put in a six second delay I could turn off the NBC audio completely!

For the Phoenix market the SC Finals are carried on AM 910. The station listed above, in Sedona, is not even a rim shot down here in the Valley. Sedona is a 90-minute drive over some pretty tall mountains from Phoenix.

I grew up in Northern California, but, yes, do remember that. When the Dodgers moved out from Brooklyn, they started on KMPC, but then switched over to KFI. Gene Autry went to the meetings where they picked the owner of the expansion Angels, just to make sure KMPC got the radio rights, and ended up owning the team. Autry's Golden West Broadcasting always had sports as a strong element. KSFO had the Giants, 49ers and Stanford for years, and one can make a good case for them losing the Giants to KNBR after the 1978 season as the point the decline and fall of KSFO began.

But since this is the LA board, I remember KFI added some talk overnight after losing the Dodgers in Hilly Rose and Ron McCoy, no?

So the Kings are one game away from a Stanley Cup Finals sweep... anything on the KTLK website yet? I bet this will lead the Stanley Cup Champion Kings to request a transfer to 98.7 full-time...

During the first few years of the post-Dodgers era ('73 thru '76), I don't think KFI played much music, but were personality-driven with not only Lohman and Barkley, but also the likes of Sweet Dick Whittington (arriving in '75), Larry Van Nuys, Hudson & Landry, the aformentioned Hilly Rose, and others. The Top 40 format change came in January 1977 - I recall the date because that's when Sweet Dick left...playing the "heavy hits" full-time wasn't his thing and he only lasted a week or so with the new format. Bob Shannon took his 3-7 pm time slot and Whittington returned to KGIL a couple of months later.
