LA Times: 'Today' chief Jamie Horowitz ousted as NBC morning woes continue

I don't like Matt. I want Tom Brokaw and Jane Pauley back, Frank Blair doing the news and Ray Ellis doing the theme music.

And Willard Scott doing weather.

I doubt Frank Blair and Ray Ellis could return to the program in their former roles for it as ghosts.

Brokaw: Pompous twit.
Pauley: Airhead. IQ of a cantaloupe.
Downs: Mush-mouthed. Laziest man in broadcasting.
At least nobody is suggesting bringing back Baba Wawa.
Nobody has matched Garroway. Garroway is to Today what Sean Connery is to Bond.
Close second was Chancellor.

I was about to suggest Baba Wawa.

I didn't even think about Hugh Downs!

Sorry, I disagree with most of your opinions. I'm not old enough to remember Dave Garroway (I've seen clips but not enough to really say he was that great) but his partner spent a month programming my favorite radio station (at least that was my theory), at a time when I and many others didn't like the results.

I almost agree about Connery, but Roger Moore was my favorite Bond. Back when ABC tried to show every Bond movie, I almost changed my mind.

Frank, just quoting a book on the history of the Today Show (which I agreed with).

I guess one of the hosts I disparaged was your favorite.

Lest we forget, on Brokaw's watch is when GMA first moved ahead.

I have no favorite host.
You didn't quote anything.
You failed to give credit to the book from which you pulled the information.

As I said .... We all have our opinions.
We should respect the opinions of others ... even if we don't necessarily agree with them.
That is what discussion is all about.

Just to clarify: the closest I have come to watching this show in the past decade or so is the Macy's Parade. I guess Al is okay but I'm not crazy about the other hosts.

And Al co-hosts the Rose Parade too. ABC has the more professional team.

But I'd rather have Doug Davidson.

Right. Good one. :) But I'll play along anyway.

I don't understand. When did Frank Blair have the role as "ghost" on Today? I was under the impression that he was Today's news presenter from 1953 to 1975.

Or are you instead suggesting that Mr. Blair's specter has been identified as inhabiting Studio 3K at 30 Rock, the studio location of Mr. Blair's final decade as news presenter on Today?

If so, do we have any reports regarding the ghost of Dave or even perhaps J. Fred at the current Christie's auction house, formerly the RCA Exhibition Hall that acted as Today's original studio?

That J. Fred was one bad ass monkey! He used to crack me up.

You seem to have misunderstood my previous message. I did not suggest that their former roles for the program were to be ghosts.

Nothing misunderstood. I know it's all part of your social misfit act. I'm certain that you have a firm understanding of proper sentence structure and know that had you written, "As ghosts, I doubt Frank Blair and Ray Ellis could return to the program in their former roles," it wouldn't have been anywhere damned near as funny. Keep it up, Mario/Alvin. With all the tight asses around here, your Sheldon Cooper act makes this place a whole lot more entertaining -- though you might want to watch your verb tenses. :)

Really? I don't stalk people. I don't go into threads for the sole purpose of injecting gratuitous insults at those I have stalked. I don't respond to current posts with jibes about posts from months ago. You need to look in the mirror, dude.

And I don't go into threads for the sole purpose of sniping and flaming anyone who has gotten further in broadcasting than I (you) have; which in your case is probably a 50-watt daytimer in Squaw's Elbow, Arkansaw. You need to look in the mirror, dude.
