It appears that the master plan of flip-flopping The Wolf and The Rocket back to their original locations has been revealed.
Purdue sports will remain on 95.3 as The Wolf will become the new flagship station for Purdue football and men's basketball. Also according to Artistic Media Partner's website, women's basketball will remain on The Wolf.
Did AMP see how well football did for The Rocket when it was on 95.3 and decide to give it a try on The Wolf to boost ratings substantially....or was it the result of a market study to prove that college football and basketball fit better on country as opposed to classic rock? My theory is they decided to take a risk and move the Wolf back to 95.3 just to boost ratings for their fledging station to justify its presence in the market. Granted, Purdue sports WILL help them, and I give them credit for alligning Purdue sports with The Wolf (and by default, making AM 1410 the home for all Purdue sports).
There are lots advantages for the Wolf right now with Purdue being on their station. They may finally have the chance to lure some listeners away from K 105 if they play their cards right. I just don't understand why they just didn't do this 2 years ago before AMP flip-flopped The Rocket and The Wolf the first time around. Even back then, the Wolf could have used the gains from broadcasting Purdue sports. The Rocket and WAZY have always been able to hold their own without football and basketball.
One thing is for sure.....The Mix is in trouble with this move. Unless they really step up their game, they will be, hands-down, dead last in the market when the Arbs come out in January.
