Larry Elder Officially Returns To Salem's Conservative Talk Lineup In Former 6-9 PM EST (3-6 PM PST) Timeslot

Welcome back Larry. The radio dial needs more strong black voices such as his. He has excelled in LA afternoon drive on a major talk station before and I am sure he will do so again.

As long as this means he won't try another disastrous run at being governor, I'm happy.

Not disasterous at all. He informed and educated many in that role, those that would not be listeners of talk radio. I am sure he has no regrets about his run; he knew the odds were heavily against him.

As you and I go back to our usual "disagree" mode ... I knew it couldn't last. 🙄

I'm not saying they don't get elected. They do, based on their name recognition. Therein lies the problem.

There are people on this board---on this thread---who would argue that Reagan was one of the country's greatest presidents, that Schwarzenegger's environmental accomplishments and support of gay marriage made him a good governor, and that Sonny Bono and Clint Eastwood were very good as mayors for the small cities they served (Palm Springs and Carmel, respectively).

I'm not stating my views on the above---but there are many people who would argue that.

They all pre-date the current reality TV syndrome we're in now. None of those people would get elected today.

For the reasons you give. They were focused on service, not entertaining.

I agree about Reagan. Assuming they were alive and the same age as when they were elected, Clint and Sonny could easily win mayoralty races in their towns.

Arnold? A wild card. But he has infinitely higher name recognition than any of the people running for Governor of California in 2026.

And yet, it worked for Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Clint Eastwood and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And many more if we look beyond CA: Professional wrestler Jesse Ventura served as the 38th governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003. He ran as part of the Reform Party.

Politics aside–and as a Black man I'm no fan of Elder and his code-switching MAGA politics, or Brandon Tatum's for that matter–this sudden change had to have been in the works for some time.

On the surface, it would seem that Elder began lobbying for a return for sometime because he needed an outlet. In doing so, both Elder and Salem threw Tatum under the bus.

Or, Tatum realized that the audience he needs to reach wasn't a match with the Salem demographic (primarily white men 55+). My understanding is that he's been off for the past few weeks (with Elder and Carl Jackson filling in) so perhaps he knew something was about to happen. Either way, Tatum can now focus on YT and podcasts to reach the younger folks who aren't tuning into conservative talk radio. (And, he can cuss all he wants to. But he's still a 🤡.)

Salem did a rush job in announcing this move. Stations weren't notified until just after 4:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday–less than two hours before Elder went on the air.

The only thing you can judge from Tommy Tuberville is…Tommy Tuberville.
I was told we were not to discuss politics on this board. Tommy Tuberville has nothing to do with LA Radio.

You have all sufficiently demonstrated your left of center political bona fides (well done as always) but you are now free to talk about radio once again.
