Larry Mowry leaves CBS 11 and DFW to return to WLS TV in Chicago.

A few weeks ago, news broke on Ed Barks's Blog site unclebarky.com and on Chicago area TV blogger Roger Feder's site robertfeder.com that Larry Mowry was leaving the DFW TV Market to take a job at the iconic Chicago ABC Owned & Operated TV station WLS where he previously worked there before. The rumors we confirmed this week.

On Wednesday, a very stormy night for the DFW area as we had a cold front/dryline causing a severe weather outbreak with a tornado in Tarrant County and hail all around the area, Larry Mowry worked his final night at KTVT CBS 11 covering Wednesday's storms in what will be his last DFW storm outbreak coverage.

Larry was the chief meteorologist at CBS 11 since 2008, when he joined CBS 11, he previously worked in Orlando at WKMG, and had worked in the Chicago TV before in 2003-2004 working at CLTV and then WLS, where he's returning to in April.

In his time in DFW, he covered major severe weather outbreaks in the ares as well as big winter weather events.

Key major weather events he covered includes the 2011 Heat wave, February 2011 winter weather outbreak which affected Super Bowl 45 week, April 2012 outbreak, and most recently, the December 26, 2015 tornado outbreak which hit Garland and Rowlett the hardest with a EF4 Tornado.

This is gonna be a major loss for DFW TV weather, but DFW's lost is Chicago's gain, and i wish him the best in Chicago.

meanwhile the hunt for a new Chief Meteorologist at CBS 11 is on, and current morning Meteorologist Scott Padgett will be filling Larry's slot in the meantime, while Padgett, Jeff Jamison, Jeff Ray and Lisa Villegas are the remaining members of the CBS 11 weather staff hoping to get promoted to Chief Meteorologist, but it's possible CBS 11 will hire a new chief meterologist from either outside the station that's currently in this market (possibly bring in former Fox 4 and current KRLD meteorologist Ron Jackson into the fold) or bring someone in from out of the market to either replace Larry as the chief meteorologist or replace one of the other meteorologist if they get promoted to be Larry's successor as Chief meteorologist.

bumping this thread with an update.

Larry's now at WLS-TV in Chicago as expect since the news broke, however, CBS 11 has now finally found their new Chief Meteorologist.

while there was a search for the new Chief Meteorologist that had Meteorologist around the country and the current weather staff at CBS 11 and the winner was the interim Chief Meteorologist, the man who was assigned to Mowry's slots with the 6 and 10 newscast.

Scott Padgett is now the Chief Meteorologist. he beat out his fellow CBS 11 weather team members Jeff Jamison, Jeff Ray and Lisa Villegas for the role as well as the possible choices that CBS 11 have been looking at as Mowry's successor.

and with that the weather team on-screen line up is:
Jeff Jamison: mornings (4:30-7 AM) and 11 AM newscasts
Lisa Villegas: 4 PM newscast 3 days per week, and weekend evenings (Saturdays at 6 PM and Sundays at 5:30 PM, if no sporting event is scheduled for that time) and 10 PM newscast (normally airs at that time, but during football season, the newscast is delayed due to CBS' delaying the airing until after the game)
Jeff Ray: weekend mornings (Saturdays at 11 AM and Sundays at 7 AM)
Scott Padgett: as the Cheif he will be doing the weekday 5 PM, 6 PM and 10 PM newscasts all 5 days during week, the 4 PM newscast twice a week, and will be possibly be on during a major severe weather event if needed even if it's on the weekend.
