LAST MINUTE DX TEST ALERT!!!! WBOB-600 JACKSONVILLE FL 50,000 WATTS

CJWW very loud now, taking out Vancouver and KOGO. KGEZ faded up again around 0430z (when WBOB had sweeps) but no sweeps underneath the jumble. Too far west for this one, and maybe too early in the season.

ID at 12:40am edt. Discussing their equipment, and the infamous "Wobbler"! :)
That's really cool. Hope you're recording! Haha

In Chicago, I heard the whooping sound, which agreed with what was on a nearby websdr. Everything else though was obscured by CKAT, which is often strong here. So I finally get to hear what a DX test sounds like...

Listened on four radios. The GE Superadio came through first, with -- finally -- the sweep tones at 12:21, followed by some xzyophone jazz song.
CKAT Country was dominant atop 600 from start to finish. Lol -- THAT'S a newie for me, too.
@ PT Board op : Ode To Billy Joe may have been from CKAT. I believe it was they, at least here. The signal was very much the same from them throughout.

More sweep tones at 12:28, but no further music from WBOB. I heard no voice from them, but those 'whoop whoop whoop' tones really cut though everything.

I tried DXing from the kitchen. Yeah, right. I had to listen outside on the patio, but it made no difference. Outside was still noisy as all get-out. My house is a corner place and the power lines both E-W and N-S bristle both ways right there. I could only get a sliver of 'clean' signal, both on the SR and on the little 'travel' radio from Radio Shack. And the little tape deck ran off the outside wall outlet -- I was one battery short for it -- which made everything unrecordable except for those sweep tones. The car radio, naturally parked under the E-W power lines, was clearer and got more stations. I'm thinking that Dave Ramsey might've been off WICC in Brodgeport.

Thanks for all who got in touch! That's two newies in one session on the same channel (pending the source of that jazz song at 12:22)

I listened to the DX test at around 11:30pm CDT on my car radio in Picayune, MS. First there were the sweeping tones, then a song. It was clear right until around the end of the song, when WREC in Memphis started to interfere. Even so, I could hear the voice mention Jacksonville and that they were on the daytime pattern at 50000 watts. I will try to post the video when it finishes uploading.

It is 11:30 MDT, and 600 in my area is now just two talker stations. I am using an SDR in the Atlanta area to listen in, and I have recordings from it.

The Sunshine State has FINALLY been heard!!!
Sweeps at 0534! Very weak, but they were there at the right time!! I was able to listen to the YouTube stream from DX Central, song faded down, sweep tones started, quickly muted, turned the audio up on the Kittitas SDR and way under Vancouver and the others, there they were.
I can't believe it. 2,350-mile catch. It took two tries to get this. Failed in January 2016 under decent conditions, but I guess two's the charm. What a great start to Labor Day Weekend! :)

What radio are you using? Congratulations by the way

Still playing Led Zeppelin. Hearing it in the background clutter in Northern Illinois. Also, heard on the Champaign and Normal, Illinois SDRs. 0540

I'm using a CloudIQ SDR that is 6 mi away from me in Kittitas WA (noise level at CWU is just too high for AM and the concrete walls block E-W). KC7JLU/AJ7JA run it. I know where it's located too. 1 mi N of Kittitas WA. I log all my AMs using this receiver nowadays.

A female singing The Star-Spangled Banner, some sorta Morse Code, then Rhapsody in Blue, followed by Moonlight Serenade. Might that be WBOB? Found the DX Central stream on YouTube. And there we are.

Yep I heard the banner as well. Now they're playing, wait for it, the same song that waa in that Allstate commercial where people left things on their cars.

Time flies when you're not having fun
Something the WBOB announcer actually said on air, LOL. It has been five years too many. Do more tests!
