LAST MINUTE DX TEST ALERT!!!! WBOB-600 JACKSONVILLE FL 50,000 WATTS

@crainbebo Now that you got WBOB, how often do you recieve my local on 1630, for instance?

KRND comes in every night. 650 KGAB is seldom heard, but is in my logbook. 1210 KHAT is a regular as well, 1290 KOWB is sometimes heard (often during the C2C commercial breaks, they will ID during the sounder leading back into George Noory). 1480 KRAE continues to elude me, been trying for years with no avail.

Well that's neat, thank you for sharing. I once grabbed KBBO in the morning. Now, KRND has become KVAM, and is a YNOP station. That KRKY format lasted maybe 3 months

Ramsey is WMT Cedar Rapids IA.

Figured, but wasn't sure. 600 is a frequency I've never DXd, at least here in central Ohio. This is one time living outside the main pattern of WTVN is a good thing as the interference was minimal.
I used to hear WREC quite a lot in Houston despite local KILT on 610.
It was tough to hear much of anything else coming from WBOB. There was music, but it was extremely weak to the point that I couldn't identify the song.

Does anyone know if the folks in the xmtr building kept a log of the whats and whens the station played?
There was quite the variety I heard here in NE PA. A rap song that sounded country-vocals was probably CKAT, but there was also a tune that sounded a bit like Abba, and that jazz song at 12:21.
Ed Zeppelin? The SSB? That's too many varieties of music for any AM regional to be playing at around the same time PERIOD, never mind after midnight.
A list of the songs would clear up a lot of things. Anyone catch the demonstration well enough to be able to take a music log ?

Steve,
ABBA was played (two songs) on WBOB. One of them was 'Take a Chance on Me.'

Slept trhough it! Pshaw! I went to bed early because I had an early morning airport run today.....and forgot to set my alarm to wake me up for the test. My bad.

But it's great to read all of these reports. I figured WBOB might be relatively easy at my location. 600 here is usually WMT, but they're not that strong....and neither is anything else (although CKAT sometimes turns up with a loud "meow".) Cuba used to blast in here "back in the day", so I was thinking a flamethrower from J-ville might be able to accomplish the same thing.

I think you would've had a better chance than I did. It was fun, they waa playing all sorts of music, no ads, occasional swep tones (all low to high), and some CW decode, apparently. It only lasted 2 hrs though.

Les Rayburn on the BCB logger reports a last-minute DX test will be done TONIGHT, at Midnight ET September 4th (Saturday), 11PM CT 9/3, 9PM PT, for WBOB 600 in Jacksonville FL! They will be on full 50,000 watt pattern playing CLASSIC TOP 40 music ONLY. NO SWEEPS. NO CW. NO TONES.

Yours truly tried in January 2016 for WBOB's test, but didn't have luck. My luck is even less sadly, due to long-defunct Vancouver going back on the air with Asian programming. But I will try and see what happens.

Get those phasers and SDRs ready! TONIGHT!
How did you get WBOB all the way from Yakima?

I don't live in Yakima anymore, I'm 30 miles N in Ellensburg now.
Conditions were fantastic. Before the DX test, WCKY 1530 Cincinnati was in, along with others from the east. The first hour of the DX test was just mush, mixtures of Punjabi music from Vancouver, country from CJWW Saskatoon, oldies from KGEZ in Kalispell, and talk from KOGO San Diego. But I was alerted on the groups.io IRCA board that two DXers in WA and OR had just copied CW/morse code successfully (the "VVV VVV DE WBOB") on 600 during the 10:00 hour. I turned on the livestream on YouTube of the DX test, quickly turned it down when sweeps came on, turned on the Kittitas SDR's audio and way underneath the slop were sweeps. 10 minutes later I heard weak, yet audible, CW. I couldn't believe my ears.
I use an HF SDR receiver that's situated a few miles east in Kittitas (pop. 1000). Antenna is a Wellbrook ANA-1530 omni loop, and the radio is a CloudIQ SDR. The noise level here at CWU is atrocious. It is always S9, every night, all night. Unless I go out into the *FREEZING* cold fall/winter temperatures, in which my hands numb and I freeze my butt off, but when that happens I use the 909X and a Select-a-Tenna loop. It helped me get WHAS last January for the first time! But I don't do that often because of the warm comfort of my home and an SDR that's just a few miles away from me, so I can count new stations that I hear.

They were also heard on an SDR way up in northern British Columbia...probably 2,750 miles or so. And they were also heard in Scotland, some 4K miles from Jacksonville! 50KW and great conditions create opportunities we didn't realize would happen.

And thanks to your alerts on this board many of us were able to hear WBOB as well.
Thanks Crainbebo!

CKAT has more than likely been on 10000 watts Day power and pattern for a long time. I suspect that it started because they were upset about WTVN 610 IBOC sidebands. Now it interferes with WSNL 600 (formerly WTAC, the station once owned by the Chess Brothers before they sold it and bought WVON and WLUP) all the time, and makes their de facto NIF way above the decent 6.7 mV/m it's supposed to be.

Somebody built a cell tower too close to WMT 600, and they have been on STA off and on, and they are most likely also radiating more to the East, more than the 1 kW equivalent toward originally WICC 600, et. al., the pattern they are still supposed to have.

I've been very busy, I will get that confirmed clip of CW/morse code pulled off this week.

Well, it took until 9/24 to pull it off, but here it is, in all its glory. Loud and clear morse code in this edited clip, under CKSP, CJWW, and 1-2 others.
