Last nights terrible late night -overnight show on 610 WIP

2 notes: Cowherd will NOT run instead of Jody Mac while he's out. You can bet the farm on that. They would get better results running a bartered real estate show instead of a guy who only talks college sports in a real sports town like Philly which doesn't even know college sports exist(with the exception of some local hoops) and even that has limited appeal.

Secondly, PEN may have offered Kincade a gig, but no way they offered him more than 125k. Jody is making less than that and Missanelli(out of chances in Philly) would be lucky if he got 150K. Don't how how Atlanta can pay sports guys that kind of doe when it's such a horrific sports town like Phoenix, LA and Miami.

A guy like Kincade is pulling 300k and I've read on many boards that Bruno has "overvalued" himself in not accepting less than 500k? How doesn that make any sense? Do you geniuses know what local hacks make in REAL sports towns?

Hater,
You seem to be a little out of touch. I know Philly fans are passionate, but if you think it is a better sports town than Atlanta, radio ratings don't show that. Cataldi does better than the top sports talk morning show in Atlanta with Men 25-54 (all that matters). The difference is roughly 20%.
Kincade does better with Men 25-54 considerably than almost every time slot on WIP and is comparable with the Cataldi crew best ratings books.
In case you have not noticed, Atlanta has climbed as a rario market while others have passed Philly.
The passion in the South for the SEC and GA football is just as measurable as that of Eagles fans.
Ratings show that in fact Atlanta is a better sports talk market than Philly, as the #2 station in town 790 does far better in ratings and revenues than 950 does in Philly.
Cataldi and Eskin make a mint, based on proven ratings success and history. They deserve it.
Howard is clearly slipping, about 9th with Men 25-54. That does not justify that salary and you can bet CBS execs are noticing.

@ Hater,

- I agree that The Herd won't be aired, he doesnt fit Philadelphia, but he is a very entertaining show. I really enjoy what he does on the radio. Philly isnt smart enough to get his show.

They have to go local in that time-slot, but my question is who do you want to see in there ?

Any guess on who might be on ?

Actually, according to All Access, Michael Bradley would be filling in for the time being.

Meanwhile in New York, on his weekend show on 1050 ESPN, it was Rob Flatter in for Jody Mac with Seth Everett from MLB.com.

Actually the Inquire article says that Michael Bradley HAS BEEN filling in, not that he will be filling in...but I would assume he will be the guy...talk about a guy that needs a partner.

Sadly, it doesn't matter who fills in that time slot because I'm sure 950 will not renew Jody's deal when it's up. When they yanked him off pm drive, luckily the Bruno slot was open from 9 to noon with the Sporting News bungling of that deal, so instead of being bough out of stuck on a bad shift so he would quit and save the company, Jody is "earning" the rest of his deal instead of being paid to stay home and look for a job.
Typical bush league radio move by cheap companies.

Atl,

Your numbers would only show that Atlanta's sports audience is split. Whereas Philly's is slanted towards WIP. Where you are on correct and Hater is misinformed is the fact that just b/c a town is not considered a, "GREAT SPORTS TOWN," it doesn't mean they don't have GREAT SPORTS TALK.

Phoenix & LA have deplorable sports talk for the most part. The Loose Cannons being by far the best local sports listen in Los Angeles. Papdakis is ok, but the rest is dreck. Phoenix isn't even worth mentioning. 10 years ago when they only had 1 stations KGME was actually a good station. Miami's sports talk stations split the audience much like Atlanta's do. Both, with very recognizable names in the market and nationally in talk circles (I.E. WQAM's Neil Rogers was one of the original shock jocks and WAXY has Sid Rosenberg, Dan LeBatard & Jorge Sedano. All who have national followings). Those 2 stations along w/ WIOD who's a N/T dominate the Men 25-54 numbers.

Point is. All those guys I mentioned from those cities get paid handsomely. More than the numbers that were put out for WPEN's hosts in this thread. Why? Because, as you pointed out ATL, proven ratings winners currently in their market and/or in previous stops.

Great points all around.
The fact is that if you want to have major market ratinsg success, you need to have top notch talent and they are paid handsomely. 950 obviously wants to try and develop talent on the cheap or pay guys that have baggage.
They will never climb the WIP mountain that way.

I dont think 950 thinks they can beat WIP in the ratings, but I do think they think they can make a small dent and take some of thie rad dollars. If they think they can take over the ratings after just 3 years, with 3 different names, and about 10 different hosts thwey are nuts. They need to be patient with the format.

Now that they have the ESPN name (like it or not its a brand), they have Mikey Miss and they have Jody Mac, they have 3 branded names, I think they can compete if they add more local programming. But it cant be a kid that just graduated from St. Joe's or Temple like they did for the update guys. get a young 30-something guy in or around the market and pair him with Mike or Jody, let him brand that guy, by the 5th year, I bet they crack a 1.8 and that should get them some beer money and more ad dollars.
