Laura Dane Upped from MD to PD of Sandusky's KRWM "Warm 106.9"

c & p from Radio & Records July 3

Laura Dane has been promoted to PD of Sandusky AC KRWM (Warm 106.9)/Seattle. Dane, who has been Warm's MD for the past five years, replaces Gary Nolan, who left at the end of May to become Exec. VP of The Harker Group.

"A native Seattle-ite, Laura has earned the right to program the station she has worked so hard at making No. 1," says GM Marc Kaye.

Before joining WARM 106.9, Dane programmed in Cincinnati, Orlando, Albany and Nashville.

Isn't that essentially the same thing that was said about Lisa Adams when she became KQMV PD?

Translation of the above quote: "We couldn't get anyone worthwhile to apply, because everyone knows better than to come work here, so we (again) promoted from within. At least it saves us the moving expenses!"

More like, "I didn't want to hire anyone who might argue with me an do things their way."

Another great example of someone posting on this board about something they know nothing about. I know at least a half dozen Top 50 market PDs who inquired about this position.

If you're going to post something on a topic you know nothing about, at least acknowledge in your post that you're speculating.

No need for a full-time PD, Mark Kaye knows this station inside and out. Laura is a great MD and can handle the day to day. Nice try posters, but KRWM under Mark has kicked butt in a major way. MOVIN is about to do the same. Leadership is knowing when to take command and surround yourself with people like Laura and Lisa that can execute your vision, not abort it.

DAMMIT....I just sprayed Dew all over my keyboard!

Gary Nolan is rolling over in his grave, and he's not even dead yet.

How did KLSY do under St. Mark again?

Marc Kaye sure did "execute" KLSY's vison alright.

Laura Dane has the PD experience and previous Seattle experience to qualify for the position. It does seem natural for that to happen. Especially in a situation where the group is obviously trying to save money and keep costs low (read: sale).

Whether Dane is truly guiding the Warm ship (or Lisa with Movin) is doubtful. They'll probably just be there handle the duties of a PD that Marc doesn't want to do.

Here's some more fact. Marc Kaye offered the KLSY job to a few notable PDs across the country. Upon learning the situation, they passed. Kaye eventually settled with the battle-tested, people-skiills pro Bill West.

People 'inquire' all the time about positions that aren't even vacant, ranging from board-ops to PDs. And let's face it, Seattle is a very desirable place to live. Hard to fault people for that or think that's such a novelty.

As mentioned in the previous post, Laura Dane has the resume to fill the chair. But there is a question as to whether she is just filling the chair or actually doing the work.

Letting loose the 92.5 air staff, KIXI air staff, KWJZ morning show and hiring locally for the KRWM PD chair smells of drastic budget cuts, which is usually followed by a sale. Optimisitcally, maybe Sandusky will keep the properties and they're just doing budget cuts because of their lost revenue over the last few years with 92.5.

And suddenly Gary's departure sounds fishy. Good thing he got another gig, and didn't just get cut loose (not that he'd be on the beach for long).

Not one word on this post giving Laura Dane a congrats on this promotion... shame on you!

Agreed!!! Congratulations Laura. You and Mark are a great team. Part of a good programmer is talent and part is working with the GM, Laura will do what Gary Nolan, Bill West and Tony Coles could not. She deserves props!

Excellent point! Laura has been in the market a long time and probably deserves the promotion regardless of the speculation about the company, etc. Congrat's!

Huh...? Certainly Laura deserves props for getting the gig. KRWM is a great station. BUT it was Tony Coles who took KRWM over the top with his all Christmas stunt way back when it was far from being a sure thing. Gary Nolan was a great follow-up act to Tony and certainly nurtured and positioned KRWM well during his stay.

Both left to persue greener pastures, what's wrong with that?
