LeBron Is The New "F" Word On Kiss-FM

Has anybody noticed that for the last couple of weeks, 96.5 Kiss-FM has been playing the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys song "Empire State Of Mind" in which a reference to LeBron James is edited? Or, specifically, "flipped and reversed"?

Anyway, this was apparently the night jock's idea, and here's what he had to say:

"I was playing the song and realized that the word “LeBron” is as offensive to some people as the ‘Seven Words You Can’t Say On The Radio,’” said Murphy. “Anytime one of those words shows up in a song, we either bleep it, cut it out completely or obscure it by flipping it backwards. So, I suggested to our programming dept that we should treat the name “LeBron” similarly..."

I guess y'all aren't over his leaving to take his talents to the South Beach yet... :D

regardless of what posters here may think(especially those who don't even live in metro Cleveland), a LOT of ordinary listeners in the Cleveland area now consider LeBron James as a negative...it makes sense for KISS-FM to wipe his name out of that song--why remind a listener of something that they don't like/upsets them/whatever when you don't have to.

Despite a desperate need to have a ring on his finger, he should have stayed with Cleveland. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO he couldn't live without a ring...It's like people who can't live without a trophy in their bedroom.
 
Oh, c'mon. It's a cute publicity stunt by KISS-FM. It's certainly not going to stop people from buying the Jay-Z record, that's for damn sure. If Java Joel's intention was to get PD Bo Matthews to forbid the playing of any Jay-Z record on WAKS because of the scant LePuke reference in one song, then that's another story.

It's similar to when WMJI called themselves "Cavs 105.7" when the Cavaliers played the Magic in the playoffs. Just simple shtick good for a nice laugh and a smile. Especially because Dan Gilbert would be better off trading the Cavaliers for an NHL franchise at this point... well, all we can ask for is a good laugh. (And nobody complains that WKNR still openly uses the ESPN name in their branding... ;))

People in this town has every right in the world to their personal opinions on LePunk. After all, It's A Cleveland Thing (tm). What, you expect us to 'get over' Modell's relocation of the Browns franchise back in 1995? Please.

(DToTheJ, I'm surprised you didn't include the "Apparently, Brad Daugherty is more of a Q104-type of guy" gag at the end of the story. :p)

Why are people who do not live in the Cleveland/Akron area telling people in the Cleveland/Akron area to "let it go"? People from Buckeye country. We root for the Bucks, should we in Cleveland/Akron say "let it go" when the Bucks lose?

Sorry, but I had to bring this up. LePuke was one of the few prides and hopes we had left here.
 
First let me say i do not live in Cleveland. That being said, being an Indianapolis Colts fan, I have to be careful when I am in
Baltimore. I went into a resturant with a Colts shirt on under a jacket. I didn't realize it untill it was too late. I asked the waitress if it was ok to take my coat off. She said "I have never seen a Colts shirt before". Baltimore still HATES the Colts after over 25 years.

I do not expect Cleveland to get over this anytime soon.
 
In the larger scheme of things, it's not that important. Cleveland should get over it. The problem is some rabid sports fans can be very immature.
Remember, that recently a little boy, who is a fan of the New York Jets and wore a Jets T-shirt or hat was tackled by some drunk idiot Browns fan. The boy received an injury on his leg.

Thanks John, since you live in the affected area, trying not to contradict myself on the earlier post, yes, it's up to us in this area to decide to "get over it". Not others to decide for us. "Getting over it" would probably be "healthy". And I'm am not a big sports fan, but I want to see Cleveland do good, in sports or radio or whatever, as if we do good, that's more pride for our area, and more money staying here, and I think it promotes a better image of our area and makes us feel good about living here.

Yes, rivalry can be carried too far, as in your very good mention of the boy from New York. I just want Northeast Ohio to be able to feel some pride, everything we have here is taken from us. We get to the world series, or other playoffs, Cleveland always "almost makes it", but something always happens. We have the Rock Hall, but many of the inductions are held in NY. Where is our medical mart, other cities are taking our spark away. Modell sold us out, now LePuke. I think the reason Cleveland/Akron doesn't want to "let go", is that we had to let go way too many times. It's just not a sports thing, it encompasses much more. I'll go out on a limb with my hunch that enterprises, whether sports or otherwise, purposely position things so Cleveland does not get the bid, win, whatever. Almost like there's a hex on us.
 
I don't live in the Cleveland area, but that is funny... Lebron is overrated anyway. Wonder if this is permanent? :p
 
Being a long time long suffering Cleveland sports fan, I have just gotten used to it. It was said that Lebron left quite a bit of money on the table when he "took his talents to South Beach." But how much more in endorsement money will he potentially make for making the move?

Anymore athletes are paid mercenaries and could care less where they punch the clock. They will get the adoration of that market's fan base until it's time for them to leave. Then they become just another bum.

In all seriousness, the proper noun I would really use to describe that man would get me thrown off of these boards permanently. You said it, I'd rather call him... "Bosco."
