I have heard alot of rumors that the great station of years ago- WANS 1280 AM in Anderson is about to flip from ESPN/local sports talk radio to True Oldies. Is this true? I sure hope so. I live in Anderson and we need a good Oldies station here. WANS AM 1280 has a great AM signal. Does anyone know when the flip will take place? Who will be some of the local jocks?

I totally agree!!!!!!!! A campaign has be set up where listeners are calling the studios of WRIX/WANS in Anderson and voicing this opinion during normal buisness hours. Can you help with this too? Let us know what they say. The owner there is Gary Bryant and the PD is some guy named "pork chop"!

That'd be great. I don't live in Anderson but I pick up 103.1 very well in Laurens county and would love an oldies format on there! Sending talk to AM and putting oldies on FM would be great. I am all for it. I will call/email.

I think Pork Chop is a fine name for a Radio PD. Keeps the bill collectors scratching their heads.

If you want to hear the Oldies on WANS and want the 103.1 wrix call letters changed to WANS-FM-e-amil the owner of WANS/WRIX- Gary Bryant at [email protected]. He has the address listed on the WRIX website and welcomes comments. Thanks..............

I was with WRIX for about seven months last year doing Saturday night and Sunday afternoon talk. WANS 1230 has been an ESPN and local sports talk station for several years. I'd be very surprised if Gary Bryant changed the format.

WRIX is his sleeping giant. It is powerful, covering all of Anderson, Oconee, and large parts of Greenville County. This guy Pork Chop is actually the brightest lightbulb up there. He keeps the place runing. I think he is the one guy at WRIX that really knows what good talk radio is all about. They run Neal Boortz and Clark Howard, then have a total loser on from 4-6. With some tweeking in the programming. WRIX could be the best talk station in the upstate.

If an oldies format was in the works, I think WRIX FM should become the new, meaning back to the old, WANS. Move the talk to 1230 or get serious and put in some really good afternnon programming after the six hours of Boortz and Howard.

I agree with your post about 103.1 needing the Oldies format and the WANS call letters. I would put the talk on WANS AM 1280. Your post said 1230 am!!!! That is WAIM-AM and is NOT owned by Gary Bryant. Actually, in the last book, WAIM 1230 beat WRIX FM, AM and WANS AM! WAIM actually is the oldest radio station in Anderson! It was founded in 1925 by Wilton E. Hall, the founder of The Anderson-Independent Mail and WAIM TV 40. I reembered your show on WRIX. Why did you leave? Why did you call Lee Rogers (the 4-6 PM guy) a total loser? Lee has been in this market for over 30 years! He was one of the original jocks on Rock 101 (when it was WAIM-FM) back in 1978. Lee was with 101.1 for all of the 1980`s. He actually also ran WAIM-AM at one point. Lee went on to the Peak 98.1-WPEK in Seneca in 1995 as PD. What is your beef with Lee? Also, I must ask what was the deal with that lawyer lady Nancy Jo (who hosted the morning show on Fridays)? She was the worst on-air talent that I have ever heard. I believe that they have now gotten rid of her. WRIX has not been the same since Matt Phillips (owner and founder) passed away in 1997. The Matt and Bev show was great. Yes, at one time WRIX-FM ruled Anderson County. They have now lost their stronghold on this title to WAIM AM 1230. WRIX had taken over the ratings lead in Anderson from WAIM in about 1982. Now, the ratings tide has switched once more!

Forgive me for calling Lee a total loser. I,ve listened to him a few times on the WRIX website and found him to be boring and terribly underprepared, while committing the big no no in talk, meaning begging for calls. But I should not have used such a derogitory term and I apologise.

And it is 1280 not 1230. Thanks for correcting me.

Well, you have to understand that Lee was the one that set, progammed and ran the all talk WPEK- Peak 98.1. If you reacll, he orginally set Peak up as a Classic Hits station. He did program both WAIM/WCKN/WROQ Rock/ and WAIM AM 1230 back in the 80`s-early 1990`s. Lee has been known for being a great guy to work with over the yaers. He has really put his dues into local Anderson radio for the past 30 years.
