Leslie Fram to become PD of 101.9 RXP in NYC

Leslie was bumped up to operations manager for a few years while Chris Williams was PD. When he left, she took the PD job again.

I have been excited about this station since the flip. This is the opportunity for Leslie to start all over again and I couldn't be anymore happier for her.

It seems odd that "The NY Rock Experience" would hire a Southerner who didn't grow up or work in radio in the city. ???

She might do OK, based on her track experience in Mobile and Atlanta.

I'm just sayin' that they made a big deal about the NY roots angle, and they didn't hire a PD with NY roots.

Thanks, Rodney. I was thinking that, but wasn't sure. Regardless, Leslie is definitely someone that knows the business more than she's credited for on this board. The few times I met her, I knew she'd never remember my name because I was one of the million unknowns she met that day, but she was always courteous, positive, and greatly friendly. I wish I had the chance to work for her here.

It's tough to get noticed in the #1 market. Its been almost 5 hours since the Fram announcement hit this board and it has yet to get any attention on the New York board. NY ain't Atlanta; she better get use to not being threated like a diva.

Another example of the ignorance routinely generated on this board. Let me educate you about her NOT being treated like a Diva in NYC...Leslie is becoming the PD at the only radio station that plays alternative/AAA in the largest market in the world. You get your record on in NY and you're on in every other city in the country.
She'll be wined and dined by every major label president, rock stars up the wazoo will kiss the ground she walks on, and will get front row seats to every concert, sporting event, Broadway show, awards show, and any other kind of event you can think of. Conglomerates like Live Nation, Sony, and BMG are all going to want to be in the Leslie Fram business. It was like that here at 99X and this is ATLANTA.

The perks and butt-kissing associated with the gig she's going into would make anybody's head turn.

Before Cumulus moved in, 99x was floundering. I don't argue she's a great person and a class act, but that doesn't correlate to a genius radio mind. 10 years ago she was awesome, the question is will she find that magic in NY with a a fresh start? I'm just not sure Leslie and possibly Steve Craig as someone else said, both of whom aren't getting younger, can reach a demo that they certainly lost in Atlanta. I hope she does, we'll see

Being from The NYC area, and knowing the market I think Leslie will do very well in her new gig. She's smart, savvy, and knows the business, and has earned this shot. NYC is a VERY different market than Atlanta. Not better (*cough*), just different. She might bring Steve Craig with her. Having listen to the station online I think he'd be a good fit. But, I doubt she's going to re-create 99X. That would be just plain stupid, and wouldn't fly there. 99X is done, gone, kaput! It needs to stay buried. As for all the crap about her age. That way of thinking doesn't really apply any more. I wish her well, and say congrats!

If she should was to take anyone with her she should take Margot from Dave.

Besides, all of the talk about she was there when it blew up the scene when it started, to when it got blown up because of bad ratings doesn't mention about how much control she had of the station. It was talked about numerous times how the people that built 99X (Leslie, Steve, Sean, etc) had total control and the suits, although cringing, still allowed them to have "creative control" and make the station superior to others. Then, it was talked about how much the control was taken away from the people in the trenches bit by bit as the station was at its peak.

Another thing: If she was PD when the station started in 1992 until its end, what was Chris Williams doing? Not knocking Chris or Leslie, I'm just saying she wasn't the only PD at 99X, but these articles state, or portray otherwise.

Leslie wasn't PD in 1992. Brian Philips was PD from 92 until 98. That's when leslie became PD the first time.

That is great news! Maybe men 18-34 want to hear all about Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and all about her day at the spa in NYC more than ATL did.

She couldn't relate to the male audience here, I don't see how its going to be any different in NYC. But then again XRP isn't an alternative rock format either so she has that going for her. If she stays off the air rather than trying to relate to 25 year old males.... even more so. Then again 99X wasn't your typical Rock Alternative station like they are in other cities where they aren't afraid to admit they are a Male 18-34 station, and focus on them entirely.

In all fairness, she is good at programming for the most part. Her voice is great, she just over did it on-air at 99X by at least 5 years. Too bad Cumulus didn't see that right from the start, 99X would still be around. Cumulus Broadcasting's New Rock Alternative 99X.... what could have been!

I think that its obvious that those of you on the board that say negative things about Leslie have probably never had the oppourtunity to work with her. She is great at what she does, she is a stand up person and really cares about what she does and the people around her (from my experience). She has had a major impact in Atlanta and I am sure that she will do the same in NY. I wish her all the best and cant wait to see how everything goes once she gets there.

I have been a lurker here for a couple of years, but I have felt compelled to actually post this time!

I have criticized her but my primary criticism is she stayed on the air too long. She should have exited when Toucher became part of the mornings. There was about a week or so when show was chasnged to Toucher and Jimmy they magically she was back. She was not right for the morning x after awhile. It was also a bad decision on bringing Sean back. That is where her main faults lied. Inability to put together morning show that she was part of that actually worked in the latter years.

Total agreement with the leaned poster.

I think Leslie on the air was not great, especially that 90's at nine show a few years back, the Don Miller Morning Show and the New Morning X.

Leslie is a phenomenal programmer who is one of the pioneers of Alternative Radio. Her stamp on Atlanta radio will be felt for many years.

I wish her luck in New York. She is a class act.

Well, I hope you got it out of your system lurker, now, get over it, this is a board of opinions! Like it or not, not everyone has the same experience or impressions of an individual. No one is exempt, not even Leslie. They'll soon change the call letters to WRIP after she arrives in NY.

??? umm... exactly RAD1... that is why I posted MY opinion, since this is a "board of opinions" and not everyone had my experience. Calm down dude. I didnt realize the title of this thread was "only talk crap about Leslie Fram and new york rock stations".... I will have to pay more attention next time I post. ::)

Glad you did post your opinion, but do pay more attention! You dawged the few people who were even slightly critical of Leslie. Their statements, just as valid as yours. Something you'll have to learn to get use to in the big, bad world. As far as titles, get real, this board provides info and people can post ANY comment they want about the topic, title or person. AGAIN, something you seem to really struggle with, but you'll get over it.

HAHA wow, this place is super entertaining... too bad i have a job, or i would irritate message board posters all day. I wasnt really dogging anyone with my post at all. and the bit about the title of the post was meant in a joking manner, not to be taken so seriously. Something you seem to struggle with. Now, I am going to venture into the big, bad world... away from my computer screen.

Are you sure you wanna committ to that first line or was that your attempt at joking again? Don't worry, you're not taken seriously, no need to explain yourself.
