Less Play-By-Play Sports on WSAI-1360 AM

Apparently WSAI-1360 AM is offering less play-by-play sports. The station is not on the Miami University Sports Network for this football & basketball season. It has been further announced that the UC-Oklahoma football game next Saturday (September 6) will be heard on WOFX-92.5 FM. In recent seasons, UC (football and basketball) games were moved to 1360 when they conflicted with Reds game broadcasts on WLW. WSAI is also not listed as carrying Friday night high school football games as well. Does anyone know why the station isn't going to have local play-by-play sports even though they continue to provide a sports-talk format?

I feel a format change on the way!

Miami is now on WPFB-FM, WPFB-AM, and WMOH-AM. Miami wanted an FM.

High school sports producers have said in the past that WSAI wants too much mony.

I take it that means that Prep Sports Radio isn't producing games on 1360 this year?

I do have to note that WSAI-1360 is carrying the Louisville-Kentucky football game today from the U of L Network as they have in recent seasons.

As Louisville is playing next Saturday and will probably be heard on that station and U.K. is also playing next Saturday and will probably be heard on WCKY-1530; that may be why UC will be on 92.5-FM that day instead of one of those AM outlets.

That's true. I forgot about that horrible U of L deal. Is anybody listening to U of L games here? Really curious about that.

Not too many could today. The feed of the broadcast kept cutting out or WSAI kept going off the air. That was not a good way to start the Cardinals' coverage for the season in Cincinnati especially when you could tune in WCKY and get the University of Kentucky feed.

Speaking of college football, is Ohio State still going to be on 97.7? For one thing, the future of the station is uncertain, and OSU is popular enough that you'd think they could get on a big AM signal or a better FM one. I think WKRC would be a good place for them. How many people really listen to those home improvement shows anyways?

According to http://www.ohiostateradionetwork.com/, WOXY/WAOL are still affiliates.

More CheapChannel quality!

WOXY - 97.7 sends a fairly-nice FM signal into the Greater Cincinnati area for OSU football. That makes it particularly nice when the Buckeyes play on Saturday night. Interestingly, Paul Keels, the play-by-play announcer is from Silverton and used to do the UC football & basketball games on radio here.

In thinking back, the last time I remember the Buckeyes on WKRC Radio was for the 1977 Season when they were a part of the Buckeyes Network. The play-by-play announcer that year was Ken Coleman.

Major...Pete Arbogast did the Bengals games on 1160. Keels worked for Jacor atthe time and couldn't do them. Keels did Ohio State on 1160.

If I'm not mistaken, Keels did Bengals games on radio for only one season, 1996. I want to say he also was doing the UC games during that time. I always got a kick out of him when he participated in Sports or Consequences ... rolled with the jokes and actually was pretty funny when given the chance.
I do know for sure that he left Cincinnati in the summer of 1998 to take the Ohio State job. Buckeyes fans like me (and I'm sure many of you) have benefited big-time ever since.

I dunno, I always liked Terry Smith better when listening to OSU football games.
