Let me evaluate the entire Las Vegas, NV radio market

I always put Las Vegas, NV because there's also a Las Vegas, NM.

KCEP 88.1 FM Las Vegas, NV Urban Contemporary - Soulful.

KEKL (CP) Help 88.5 FM Mesquite, NV Christian Contemporary - Always need a good Christian music. However I find Christian music too uplifting at times.

KNPR 88.9 FM Las Vegas, NV Public Radio - CRAP!

KCNV 89.7 FM Las Vegas, NV Classical - CRAP!
KSOS 90.5 FM Las Vegas, NV Christian Contemporary - Same as KEKL

KVKL 91.1 FM Las Vegas, NV Christian Contemporary - Same as above - WAY too much Christian radio!

KUNV 91.5 FM Las Vegas, NV Jazz - Ok but not exciting
KOMP 92.3 FM Las Vegas, NV Rock - Ok rock station but could be better
KRRN 92.7 FM Moapa Valley, NV Spanish - CRAP!
KPLV 93.1 FM Las Vegas, NV Rhythmic AC - One of the most decent stations in this market.
KMXB 94.1 FM Henderson, NV Modern AC - Another great station but their voice talent sucks.
KVBE 94.5 FM Moapa, NV Dance - Very well programmed musically but needs DJs.
KWNR 95.5 FM Henderson, NV Country - CRAP but ok for a country station!
KKLZ 96.3 FM Las Vegas, NV Classic Hits - CRAP!
KXPT 97.1 FM Las Vegas, NV Classic Rock - Kinda crappy but ok for classic rock
KVEG 97.5 FM Mesquite, NV Hip Hop - Very well programmed.
KLUC 98.5 FM Las Vegas, NV Top-40 - Crappy sounding. Should be Mainstream CHR.
KRGT 99.3 FM Indian Springs, NV Spanish - CRAP!

KHWY - 99.7 Mountain Pass, CA - Station doesn't even come in and the programming is CRAP anyways!
KKJJ 100.5 FM Henderson, NV Adult Hits - Ok but is going to be crappy news soon so basically it's CRAP!
KWID 101.9 FM Las Vegas, NV Spanish - CRAP!
KCYE 102.7 FM Boulder City, NV Country - same as KWNR
KURR (CP) 103.1 FM Indian Springs, NV Classic Rock - Don't think that even comes in. No logo either.
KISF 103.5 FM Las Vegas, NV Spanish - CRAP!
KFRH 104.3 FM North Las Vegas, NV Top-40 - Crappy for a CHR. KFMS 101-9 Kiss FM was better!
KJUL 104.7 FM Moapa Valley, NV Nostalgia - CRAP!
KQRT 105.1 FM Las Vegas, NV Spanish - CRAP!
KOAS 105.7 FM Dolan Springs, AZ Gold Oldies - CRAP!
KSNE 106.5 FM Las Vegas, NV Adult Contemporary - KMZQ Lite 100.5 was MUCH better!
KVGQ 106.9 FM Overton, NV Classic Rock - Crappy!
KXTE 107.5 FM Pahrump, NV Alternative - Cool sounding
KVGS 107.9 FM Meadview, AZ Alternative - Cool sounding too

Las Vegas needs a hot AC station or 2 like KFLW 98-9 The Fort in St. Robert, MO, a smooth jazz again, a 90s or 80s station, and a better CHR. Over half this FM market is crap. What do you say to this?

LV radio isn't that bad as you say it... I've seen worse markets... look at Pittsburgh.

Dude... your "evaluation" was very insightful!!!!! I'm not going to even try to count how many times you used the word "crap". Can you hear my sarcasm? It's interesting that you give a crap rating to almost every top rated and billing station.

The last time I checked, Spanish was a language not a format. ;D

Let's give you a little format education for a second here...

KWID 101.9 FM - Spanish Adult Hits
KRGT 99.3 FM - Spanish CHR
KRRN 92.7 FM - Spanish Adult Contemporary
KISF 103.5 FM - Regional Mexican
KQRT 105.1 FM - Regional Mexican

Man, I didn't know there were that many "crappy" stations in Las Vegas, yet the ones you call a little crappy or crap (at least the ones you can hear in Metro Las Vegas) actually are in the top 5 or 10 in their respective demos.

They only nominate crap stations for Marconi's too like KKLZ

Dislike the sound of stations without explanation; inexperienced or have yet to master the language. The value of this post is... dare I say, crap? But that's just me.

Ddfinately a wannabe, without any consideration of what works and what doesn't. Not even a mention of AM like it isn't there, when it is a very significant player. Consider the source, in this instance I have absoulutely no credence in anything he says.

As soon as I saw this post appear I knew he'd (to use his favorite word) catch a lot of crap for it. He's probably some 13 year old kid. Notice that he puts just about every station that targets adults in the "crap" category.

His info does say "Future PD and On-Air DJ". So hopefully he will get that PD/DJ job and clean up this Crappy radio market. :D

There is an old saying... Be mindful of the toes you step on, they may be connected to the ass you have to kiss later.

...or...

Be mindful of the toes you step on, they may be firmly planted up your ass some day...

I just spent the last 4 days there, your AM talkers/sports are really, really really bad. I don't think I heard one actual paid ad on KDWN, just PSA's and endless promos.

It makes me thankful for the crap we have in Phoenix, its crap but 10X better than what you have to live with.

I wasn't stepping on his toes. If anything I was cutting Icy some slack. If he's a very young individual that would explain the lack of reasoning behind his "crap" evaluations, his limited vocabulary, and bias against adult targeted radio stations.

Sorry Jay F, I should have clarified more. Icy wants to work in radio, but he thinks almost all stations are "crap". One day he will be working for one of those crappy stations and brown-nosing the management to keep from getting fired.

Your evaluation was spot-on. He seems to enjoy the hip-hop and the alternative stations though.

Although I'm relatively new to the RadioInfo site, I am an older gentleman that has listened to and loved radio my whole life. I was under the impression that if you had alot of postings under your belt, that you are a seasoned, in your radio experience. The posting with all the "crap" designations to most of the formats presented in Las Vegas shows that there is no relationship to postings, experience or taste. It shows rather the lack of all three!

Number of posts should not be used as any kind of a gauge, just as the fact that one might get a microphone be a determinant; likewise, some knowledge about a number of stations in that single market certainly is no indication of anything other than getting around station to station. The stations with a "crap" designation are probably those which did not give that one the prize on the shelf, and the ones that did offer the prize did so only after a helping hand.

First of all, I say you need to broaden your taste in music. Blowing off entire stations because you don't like a genre is CRAP! Those stations aren't crap to the people who like the genre.

Second of all, the typical radio listener just needs a handful of stations to work with. The entire dial isn't going to appeal to everyone because musical taste tends to be fairly narrow, as evidenced by your post.

So you have a few stations that play music that fits your taste. Hooray! Enjoy them.

I find that out of the 500 or so cable channels on my box, I watch maybe 22. What does that say about the quality of programming on cable? Crap!

I will pass on the insults. I'm not 13, I'm 26 and if I do radio it would be part time. As you know I'm working on becoming a physical therapist which will make much more money than any job in radio. And that evaluation was just my own perspective on the dial there. I wasn't speaking for the audience as a whole. I do not appreciate the insults but I will pass by them as none of you knows me very well anyways.

I do want to work in radio but it's low pay and hard to get into with limited positions so I decided on healthcare instead.

If I may add my 2 cents.... the majority of vegas radio is OK.... still vegas does make some dumb moves.... firing franzen from Hot 975, the majority of the nite jocks on the chr stations around town are weak, the morning shows are weak, just their to sell ad time. BUT, the weekend jocks sound sometimes better than the full timers. Ouch!!!!, that must hurt Chet's feelings.

IMHO, a good majority of the cluster owned stations (4 or 5 in a building) need to be totally revamped.

FYI: I don't work for CBS, Beasley, or cheap channel.

I just feel like vegas could be great, but right now it's still in puberty stage!! LOL!!!
