Purpledevil is right concerning KTHT. The signal as a rimshot is not good for the formats mentioned previously, especially a format that did not work before. It would not be good to make the same mistake twice. The fact is, the classic country format has been the most successful when compared to the previous incarnations.
Classic Country dead? Absolutely not! It DOES need some fine tuning. Cox could do so much with this station. 1st of all, get rid of the current 'cheap as possible' playbook. 2nd, open up that playlist. (I know this runs contrary to the accepted belief of music testing and all of that. However, its part of that same playbook) There is a WHOLE lot more music that can be played. Play 'em!
Inject personality! Move Dan Gallo to middays and bring in "Cactus" Jack to the afternoon shift. Morning Drive? Bring in the team of 'Fred and Randy.' Add in Robert B. McEntire with the news and TJ Callahan on traffic. Now, some of you will say, as 'Hudson & Harrigan,' they died, they were worn out, they didn't have it anymore. Before you draw that conclusion, consider this: THEIR HANDS WERE TIED! They could not do the type of personality radio in which they excelled, by micro managing every comedic routine and everything they said on the radio. When you hamper the creativity, the results are disastrous.
Give it a year; and if doesn't perform in the manner in which I know it will, then they change it.
It WILL work!
