Let's talk about stations that show up in the Louisville ratings

for some reason in the year 2008, if a radio station doesn't have a website, I simply can't take them seriously....

They do have a website. Just google it. I can pick this station up fairly well, however I've always been shocked that it shows up in our books.

Your right, they have a website...It's a hot mess though.....I think they sound pretty adequate...that's about it....

When i was just a kid there was a station thats been talked about called k-105 and i believe it was at 105.3 in the 80s.it was a very interesting rock format.

WMPI is ok for what it is... lots of local involvement with Scottsburg and Scott County, IN

Thats funny that you guys can pick up 105.3 in Jefferson county, not only that, but it actually shows up in the books. That shows proof of just how weak LRS 105.1 really is........ ::)

WMPI is a decent station. They have live and local talent throughout most of the day and evening. I'm not sure if they have an overnight host. They have local news updates throughout the day and they have a fairly decent playlist. They have several weekend features of local interest to Scott County including there own weekly Country countdown show on Sunday afternoons, a live Sunday morning broadcast from a church in Scottsburg and a good Classic Country program on Sunday evenings. Plus, they are heavily involved in the community with contests, concerts and other events for Scott County. When the tornado warning took place after midnight in January, WMPI's staff were on the air with the latest updates. A lot of energy and effort goes into this heritage station.

K-105 was at 105.5 in Fort Knox, WWKK, previously WSAC-FM, now WLVK Big Cat.

Basixdj is probably right. In the 80s WMPI was on 100.9. And it has been country since the 60s.

Their tower was on County road 500S in Scott County, Indiana, now known as "Tower Road." That station always found advertising clients in Madison and Seymour, so with the chance to go to 6KW by moving their tower to Blocher (several miles north, closer to Madison and Seymour) , they thought that was a great deal. The owners were actually very disappointed that they lost coverage to the south because of adjacent channel interference from 105.1.

Their move to 105.3 allowed WTFX on 100.5 to move from the Channel 21 TV site in Bullitt County to their present location near Taylorsville Road and the Gene Snyder.

WMPI has been a good training ground for people that went on to do lots of other things in radio and broadcasting. Among others, Dan Robinson (WAMZ), John Ross (84WHAS), Greg Hahn (Cox), Scott McKain (WHAS TV and Speakers Roundtable) and Vince Garmon (84WHAS News) all worked there. I got my start there in 1976 and had the joy of learning radio in a local market. Glad to hear WMPI is still local for the most part. To quote an oft-used phrase on the station: "Over the back fence, you're on the air..."

I remember one year in the mid 90s when we had some nasty storms--almost tornadic--in Madison (and the surrounding areas) and the local stations (WORX 96.7 and WXGO 1270) were knocked off the air. I happened to pull in WMPI 105.3 and they were giving local storm progress and giving out emergency phone numbers if I remember correctly. They also did Scottsburg High School basketball games, which in any part of Indiana is significant due to the importance HS basketball has in smaller communities.
