Let's translate ratings into actual numbers of people

There are lots of people who don't have a clue how to translate ratings or even know what they mean. The common every day person can identify more with actual numbers. So let's do something a little different. Let's estimate in actual numbers the amount of people who tune into various Providence programs. Someone with a ratings book in hand who knows how to translate these numbers would be ideal. How many thousands tune into WHJJ per day to hear Rush Limbaugh? How many for Depetro or Yorke? Let's envision your favorite Radio show in a huge studio filled with seats. Each seat identifies one listener. What programs would have a packed house and which ones would have seats that are half empty. Do 8,453 people tune into Dan Yorke each day or is the number more like 952. Let's hear some numbers.

Sky...we aren't going to have any numbers because of the embargo. Also, the book JUST STARTED 9/20. There are times I laugh when you write stuff and there are times like this where you make me shaked my head and put them in my hands in horror.

As with any survey, it is a sample audience which is extrapolated for the ratings...just like nielsen ratings for TV. The size of ther sample depends upon the figure of the total potential audience (based on population) which is why NYC is market #1 and Providence is #39.

Unfortunately, until the embargo is lifted, we aren't going to know concrete numbers

I'm not looking for anything written in stone. As I wrote in my post, let's ESTIMATE. There is nothing wrong with that. How many people a day tune into Dan or Depetro? Don't complicate things by explaining how ratings work. That goes against the whole point of my post. I just want to hear some actual numbers. Who here is able to do that?

NOBODY because the ratings are embargoed. I could say 10,000 people or I could say 150,000; but without the numbers and how they are broken down by demo's...it is all a crap shoot and nobody would be foolish enough to put actual numbers out there in an embargo

OK... well then take the last set of Numbers that were not embargoed and tell me how many listeners a day Yorke had at that time. Tell me how many Rush had as well. Tell me in Thousands of people. Thank you.

Let's do a rough gauge off of the summer 06 numbers...currently, the book has 1,404,000 as the populace. WPRO-AM got a 3.7 12+...we can estimate somewhere in the range of 52,000 people on avg would be listening (obviously spread differently over the demos). By comparison....about 1/2 that for WHJJ who got a 1.7 12+....
