Lew and Mike Show at 1510 take big morning bite out of ESPN890

Anthony Pepe, WWZN General Manager, said on the air, during the Lew & Mike Show that show did well in the winter book. I called him and he explained that 1510 The Zone does not subscribe to Arbitron, but Arbitron still tracks everyone. He said that the Lew & Mike Show, from 7-9, lept forward from the Fall '07 book to the Winter '08 book. ESPN 890's Mike & Mike went the other way, moving backwards from an average of 6200 listeners every quarter-hour to 2700, while 1510's Lew & Mike went from 900 to 2300. Not bad for a show that started less than a year ago (I think). WEEI dropped 22% in the same catergory, but their numbers are so high, it doesn't really matter.

In the TSL, or time spent listening per week, the Lew and Mike Show at 1510 beat ESPN890 and WEEI. 1510 came in at 2 hours and 45 minutes per week, while WEEI came in at 2:27, and ESPN890 was 1:42.

Lastly, cume listeners, men 25 to 54, ESPN890 had a total of 37,500 listeners per week in the Fall '07 book, and dropped in the Winter book to 16,200, while 1510's Lew and Mike jumped from 4,200 to 8,400 in the same timeframe.

My point is that this 1510 morning show is good. I've been blogging about it since I first started listening last year. It's keeps moving, it's funny, and they know what they're talking about. At least that's how I see it. It's a superb alternative to the staus quo in Boston.

If I was Anthony Pepe, I wouldn't be talking a lot about the stations Arbitron numbers. Arbitron doesn't like it very much when non subscribe use their information. They have been known to sue stations that mis-use the data.

Has anyone heard Steve Sweeney's show? is it still on?

Mike Valley is starting to grate at times but it's still worth listening to... Steve's show is on afterwards at 9 AM but I've never found him funny so I don't listen to it.

I put on Steve's show for a few minutes. Once I heard Eddie Andelman's voice and talk about the "ovah" and "undah," it was time to turn the channel. Eddie seems to be popping up on different shows. I'd imagine it's to promote the "Hot Dog Safari"

1. When talking about numbers as small as 890's and 1510's, the fluctuations described above, assuming they are correct, are probably the difference of a couple of diaries. In the grand scheme, probably not statistically significant.

2. I've only listened to L and M a couple of times, but each time, within three minutes they were talking about WEEI. I'm not impressed yet. I prefer Mike and Mike when they lay off the shtick and talk sports.

AM stations do not operate on "channels"; FM stations do. (For example, WBUR-FM operates on channel 215...WBUR-AM operates on the FREQUENCY of 1240 kilohertz.

if 1510 doesn't buy arbitron data then he shouldn't be quoting you the specific breakdowns like that. one, he could get into trouble for putting the proprietary data out into public domain and two, if the numbers are put out into public domain without permission, competiting stations that do buy arby's data are at a disadvantage for many reasons.

BZZZZZZT!! Wrong, but thanks for playing. You'll receive your Samsonite luggage on your way off the stage.

FCC Rules, Section 73.14 (AM broadcast definitions) states, in part:

"AM broadcast channel. The band of frequencies occupied by the
carrier and the upper and lower sidebands of an AM broadcast signal with
the carrier frequency at the center. Channels are designated by their
assigned carrier frequencies."

I meant to put station but thanks for the nit-pick. It won't happen again ;D

ps--I caught some of the NFL commissioner's press conference and he sounds as though he took elocution lessons from Eddie. Not accent-wise but every pause was punctuated with an "uh"
