LEX AND TERRY returning to JAX on WSOS 94.1 starting 10/15

..and they're still as bad as you remember.

This time around, L&T HATE Jax! Yes, they refuse to be called "the givers" anymore. No clue why they're bothering.

They suck out loud - worst show ever. Good luck with that train wreck.

I've never understood L&T. But they seem to have a decent audience in Mobile, Pensacola, Panama City, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Biloxi... anywhere else?

Sadly....Savannah.

So far the only top 100 market on the list is Mobile.

But no major, top 50, markets?

My, how the mighty fall. It wasn't that long ago it looked like L&T might have affiliates in multiple top 10 markets.

That is because it is tired old potty humor - great for the 90's but not so much today.

Agreed.

I even liked Howard Stern when he was terrestrial. But L&T pushed the limits so far that I never was comfortable listening to them, even when I was alone... and I tell dirty and even racist jokes all the time. I love David Allen Coe's XXX material, and that's some pretty nasty stuff for a white boy to put on a record. I even respect NWA and other "Gangstas" rapping about hitting the pipe, killing pigs and slapping down hoes.
I can't put my finger on it, but L&T was (is?) well outside of even my comfort zone. I even loose a little bit of respect for people that say, "Did you hear so and so on L&T this morning?"

Why are L&T still on the air in Mobile, Panama City, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Savannah, etc... ? I know John Boy and Billy already have other affiliates in those markets, Rick and Bubba may be Southern, but they aren't fit for Active Rock stations. Surely there are other syndicated morning shows for Active Rockers that would work as well or better in Dixie.

What ever happened to Bubba the Love Sponge after he killed that hog and started cooking it on air? I've never heard Bubba, but I assume he is (was?) on a Tampa Active Rock station and he must have been successful for people to care what he said on air.
Could Walton & Johnson be the answer for mornings on Active Rockers? I've never heard the show but I understand it does well in south Mississippi and New Orleans. For all I know they could be just as bad as L&T.

I also can't help but wonder how well music would do in morning drive on the Active Rockers? I tune into the radio for music or news/talk, not guys talking about how fat they are and laughing at potty mouth jokes.

Cumulus owned WKSM 99-Rock in Fort Walton has a nice local music/talk morning show that's been a staple on the station for maybe two decades, give or take... and that's a little bitty market compared to most of the places L&T are still established.

I used to listen to John Boy & Billy when they were strictly at WRFX, and when they were just starting to syndicate (three or four stations) back in the '90s when I lived in NC. This was when Pandora worked there, just before she left and hosted some health show on UNC TV. One of the other Charlotte stations tried Stern for a while, I think about a year or two.

The former WJAD (97.3) in Albany tried Mancow for a while in the late '90s. He had a few listeners, but I could not get into his show, and when CC bought the station in 2001 they dumped Mancow. Gulf 104 started carrying JB&B soon after.

W&T are much more refined than L&T, albeit with more of a Texas flair. They certainly would be a Conservative "yin" to L&T's liberal "yang" (which has always surprised me, as their P1 is white, Southern...and by default, politically Conservative..and they do spend a lot of time making fun of the South & cheerleading for Obama. Guess no one told them Dallas is still in the South?) Since JB&B are designed for country & classic rockers, W&T might do fairly well on actives along I-10.

I don't see why anyone would want this show. Previous posts are inaccurate. I know Biloxi and Panama City has dropped them. The show is lame and the most unprepared I have ever heard. Walton and Johnson definitely aren't a fit for active rock.

The responses to date have not surprised me. Intentionally, I waited to weigh-in to see what many of you thought.

For months I’ve been making the case Jacksonville desperately and I mean desperately needs new blood in the ownership department. If this decision doesn’t prove my point, then I will never convince you.

If you recall, in the very lengthy “Jacksonville” string many subjects were discussed. But, at the center of it all, was the consensus that our market is far too fragmented with too many rock formats. Men, in particular, are over-served beyond what makes long-term economic sense. Remember too, men are served in news/talk and sports programming. Despite what many of the posters were saying about rock on 94.1, I knew in my heart Renda would continue with their strategy as acting as the spoiler to everyone else. Clearly, they are the company who has muddied the waters in both the rock and country formats. Apparently, they aren't creative enough to travel a different road and be successful where other programming holes exist.

For a long time too, I’ve tried to make the point that when the GM is vested in the success of a station/format, money and resources will become available where it didn’t exist before. I believe format success or failure doesn’t always reflect listener preferences. Sometimes, manipulation is at play and there’s no other way to call it. Follow the money trail and look at the promotions and talent budgets and you will agree with me.

I have no idea what kind of money deal is involved here. Still, I think of so many displaced, talented people who should have been given the opportunity instead. Think too about how many people lost their livelihood at Renda over the last few years. No budget for them but there is one for L&T. Radio is just one big contradiction. Management and owners do whatever they want regardless of what listeners say and they contradict their own press conferences.

One minute talk-oriented morning shows on music formats are out and then they are in big time. It's a joke folks. How great it would be if someone in this town could actually make some bold and innovative decisions that actually reflect this changing market. If this were 1992, I would think this would be big news. But it's 2012 and this town offers programming to a Jacksonville that apparently only exists in their minds. I guess we have to wait a little longer for something really good to happen here.....

I just looked at the L&T affiliate list on their website. I was shocked to see how scattered their affiliate stations are around the US. Didn't they start out as a southeastern morning show before moving to Texas and adding some Texas and Midwest affiliates to the existing southeast market? It seems like the show would just be a mess without many affiliates clustered in one part of the country anymore. They'd be better off trying to land a single local gig in a top 25 market.... or would they?

Also, didn't L&T have a falling out with Clear Channel 5 or 10 years ago? Why hasn't CC dropped L&T in Mobile and Tallahassee yet? Or should I be asking why L&T are still popular in the Mobile, Tallahassee and Gainesville markets?
