That approach will still satisfy a small group of loyalists. But, how many people do you know who like to talk about nothing but politics from 5am to midnight? There are a few, but generally most of us prefer to hang with people with a little more excitement in their lives. Those of us with kids frankly have a lot more on our minds all day than just Pelosi and Reid.

While KFYI hits the politics and serious issues for 17 hours a day or so, KTAR discusses what's your favorite roller-coaster and why, did you get any storm damage last night and who do you think will be the next American Idol.

Both are bad form to be sure... nothing but frivolous, survey radio straight out of 1982 isn't exactly a great thing, and nothing but discussing illegal immigration (while important) and other political issues is also an extreme on the other. Perhaps if either station could show just a little bit more flexibility it would be nice. Personally, I'll take issues that have importance over discussing my next planned vacation to the Bermuda. However, one does get burned out. It's just like with FREE-FM, discussing the size of your BM, who you banged last night and various other fascinations of your average 5th grader 24 hours a day isn't a winner either.

The master blogger should, as usual, keep his mouth shut.

I'm not a huge fan of the KTAR crowd, but I'd rather hear their PD... frankly, I'd rather hear Pat McMahon than listen to the same crap dribbling from your mouth every time the KTAR call letters are mentioned!

Hate to tell you this John, but even with the "new math" a 3.9 (KFYI) is greater than a 3.1 (KTAR). KFYI has had one bad book in 5 years--and still beat KTAR.

Yes, but since no one spends 85 hours a week listening to KFYI, it's not a problem... you listen when you want to hear about politics and stop when you've had enough. So it's good radio meant for consumption in small doses, and TSL numbers prove that. KTAR is still bad radio, whether you listen for a QH or 200 QHs.

Of course one can always turn off the radio, but it's best to have a station that offers a bit more than ONE style of talk. KTAR is all about the survey and asking gimmicky, stupid questions and insulting the overall intelligence of the audience. My preference leans toward KFYI, but even that is a bit much when you pound the same 3 topics--say what you want about Jacobs, but at least he'll venture into other areas; sports, the radio biz, music, etc.

It's all about preference of course, but asking for a station with at least one or two different hosts wouldn't be such a bad thing.

These are the same comments that have been said by everyone since 1984. There is a place for both and a little of each at times is good. It is funny when KTAR talks about "without the static" and the traffic report comes on and it is so filled with static. The common person doesn't believe that line anyways.

KFYI back in the early 80's only had one news person while KTAR had a whole news room. What has changed?

KFYI had a tape recorder, KTAR had a fleet of news vehicles a rolling studio and every gadget known to man. What has changed?

KfYI talked politics, KTAR talked toaster. What has changed?

KTAR fought KFYI tooth and nail on positioning. What has changed?

In the 80's KFYI had Lykus who was full of hot air today KTAR has a talk host full of himself and hot air, N Carlo

In 2040 the same things will be posted here or will it change. So far just some people, management and a AM to Fm band change, OH BOY, KTAR is doing what it does and KFYI is doing what it does.

I think you just argue for the sake of arguing without even bothering to fact-check, luckily I've done all the work for you, if you take a look at KFYI's ratings since Spring 2002, you'll note every book is a 4.0 or better in 12+ and key demos save one where they had a 2.7 in 12+ and most of the ratings in that book were out of whack... so a track record of more than 5 years of consistent 4.0-5.8 ratings (even higher in some key demos) and top 5 (frequent number one) appearances in all books (save one) in the market is not titanic at all.

Hey, go check out the numbers you might learn something. Everyone is entitled to a bad book, let's see what happens when in the summer and fall trends/books and we'll see what happens then.

KMGX - I think everyone (except for some geeks) knows KFYI had its worst book in a long time. Everyone has a bad book. I think what most people are saying, and I agree with it, is that when you listen to KFYI you hear a station that doesn't sound as good as it used to. KTAR actually sounds better to my ears. Callling KFYI the titanic is stupid, but they are getting worse not better. I am one of those who think their strongest days are in the past, unless they get rid of JD and change the way they sound overall.

All the posts where I criticize KFYI for their IBOC, absurd and random programming decisions as it pertains to weekends and the foolishness of the DST issues that they have never figured out go un-noticed though, because of course I should have remembered... if you say anything positive about station x, you work for them, if you say anything negative you work for their competition... okay then, got it, carry on with your 12 year-old-like discourse now Johnny.
