Lincoln Financial Group...Seems like we hardly knew you!

The only rumblings I'm hearing are Entercom and Cox, but that's straight from Taylor on Radio-Info. If that's the case, I think it will be Entercom for Charlotte. Pure speculation on my part.

NO COX!!! That would be just way too strange. I think my head would explode!

Entercom? Can't we do better? I don't know allot about them but what little I know I'm not impressed.

We were talking about a possible LFG sale over on the 107.9 thread.

I mentioned that some folks inside the building at One Julian Price are worried about Clear Channel buying the stations.

Someone posted that Clear Channel could take WBT and Radio One could end up with WLNK. What if the Billy Graham operation purchased WLNK or if LFG donated it to them for a tax write off?

I still think it will be Entercom, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. I didn't think about Cox, but that is a possiblity too.

I'd venture to say CC is in no position to be buying any stations at the moment.

The Lincoln Financial stations are beachfront property, but I have a feeling they might not be going for beachfront prices, mostly because LF isn't a media company. I'd imagine the media properties are more of an annoyance than a revenue stream for them.

Radio One would be a great candidate for the radio stations, but whether or not they have the extra cash at the moment is a different story. Cox would also be a good buyer.

At the end of the day, I'm willing to bet the radio and TV stations won't have common ownership after the sale.

Absolutely. Lincoln Financial has already incorporated each entity separately, so they can be sold in pieces not as a whole. I wonder if Capitol could wind up buying all three tv stations. I see it as a nice strategic fit, but I don't know if they could finance it.

Actually, Capitol might now mind having the radio stations as well as the TV's---they do operate 2 FMs in Raleigh and the NC Radio Network. They would gladly shed WMYT, considering the FCC refused to give them a full-signaled DT channel for some reason, and the problems of MY TV, and WJZY is a good fit with WBTV.

Entercom? Can't we do better? I don't know allot about them but what little I know I'm not impressed.

Entercom does have experience with N/T's in other markets. WWL 870 in NO survived Katrina and is still strong, WWKB 1520/Buffalo and WBEN 930 also in Buffalo are strong stations as well, one for the left and one for the right. I believe they would keep WBT as is, now WLNK may flip

Is it just me, or does separating WBT & WBTV just seem wrong?

It doesn't bother me if 107.9 is spun off separately.

I wouldn't look for it for a long time. The fat lady...a/k/a LFM...has not sung.

I wouldn't call WWKB's .5 in the ARB strong. As for WBEN it's a lot like WBT it would be very difficult to kill it.

It looks like the jig is up for Lincoln Financial. They're selling at a lower than expected price to either Entercom, Cumulus, or Bonneville.

I hope for long time JPers sake it's Bonneville. At least here in DC, they seem to be willing to invest in local news/talk. Entercom seems willing to at least try news/talk. If it's Cumulus, goodbye John, Jeff, and Tara, hello Hannity, Levin, Beck or/and Ingraham. WLNK would become a jukebox.

Sean Hannity is scheduled to started on WDYT 1220 in Charlotte in early
January 2008.
If WBT & WLNK are bought by Cumulus Media, it will be interesting to see
whether or not they keep the local personalities, the ratings for News/Talk
1110 is still strong, let's hope they don't drop the ones on the air right now,
in addition to the internet stream since most Cumulus stations, except for
WWTN in Nashville, doesn't have.

My prediction is Entercom. However, I still hate seeing WBT and WBTV split up. I hope WBT stays local (with the exceptions of Limbaugh and Boortz), and given the ratings of WBT I think they will.

At this point, wouldn't "jukebox" be a step up for WLNK?

I agree. 107.9 The Link is a waste of that 100,000 watt signal. And, should Cumulus take over WBT they might as well unplug the transmitter.

Why do all of you hate 107.9 so bad? They are one of the few stations daring to try something different, and something that *gasp* actually costs money. You all complain as well about CC doing exactly the opposite, firing everyone to be cheap and playing it bland and safe. So what's the deal?

107.9 The Link

I don't hate 107.9 The Link. I give them props for daring to be different. I'm sure the format is making money somewhere or they wouldn't be doing it. However, I would think they would be doing better 12+ if the format was doing great. The Charlotte market has very few stations and I can think of several music formats that we need before this Talk format.

I personally don't like the format because I'm not a big fan of morning radio. Morning radio shows are boring to me. I get tired of all the laughing over stuff that is not funny. 107.9 The Link sounds like a non-stop morning show.

I've been a Bob and Sheri fan for years so I can see how we'd see this differently. I always thought The Link was a good station when it was straight up Hot AC, but between the two I prefer the current format more. I do wish they'd confine the talk to 6a-7p though. To each their own I guess!

I absolutely applaud the idea of what the Link is doing. But hey, if it's not working, it's not working. Either it's a flawed plan or flawed execution.

Here is my prediction in the play out for Lincoln Financial Radio/TV

Raycom wants the TV stations, this is very well publicized. Look for them to snag Richmond's WWBT 12 and Charleston's WCSC 5.

Bonneville will make some kind of cash offer on the stations in both Charlotte including WBTV 3, 1110 WBT, 99.3 WBT, 107.9 WLNK

Bonneville will also snag the highly valued 950 The Fan, ESPN 1600, 98.5 KYGO, KS107.5 and Jazz 104.3.

Entercom will snap up 790 WAXY, 101.5 LITE, Magic 102.7 all in Miami

COX will have lunch with Atlanta and take over Star while probably giving up their Rhythmic Property to Radio One.

I know no one has mentioned this, which surprises me...look for CBS to be a possible player in the midst with trying to snag the FM's that exist in San Diego to cluster with their other stations and maybe spin off Sophie to Midwest TV.
