Lincoln Financial Sports: Colorado at Georgia next Saturday

Next Saturday, Lincoln Financial Sports is airing the Colorado vs Georgia game live from Athens, GA at 12:30 eastern. In case anyone is unfamiliar with Licoln Financial Sports, they show SEC and ACC teams. It is syndicated to cities in SEC and ACC markets. It used to be Jefferson Pilot, but they merged with Lincoln financial sports.

With it being syndicated, will people in the Denver area get to see the game? Lincoln Financial doesn't air out West. People in the South will get to see the game but not the Rocky Mountain States? To me, that is not fair. I don't get why it could not be shown on ESPN or CBS? That way both people in Colorado and Georgia can watch the game.
 
To be more accurate, Lincoln Financial bought Jefferson-Pilot. The sports production is just one piece of Jefferson-Pilot's business, which also includes wealth management, which is Lincoln Financial's primary business. Then again, the company did buy naming rights to the home of the Philadelphia Eagles, and does sponsor some golf and sports updates on NBC.

What's to stop Altitude or FSN Rocky Mountain from buying the rights to the game and broadcast it to those in Colorado? Obviously the interest in the SEC conference games Lincoln normally broadcasts would be of no interest to anybody in Colorado, but I don't see why Lincoln wouldn't be interested in some Mountain time zone dollars if those rights were to be bought for just this one game.

I read on the Colorado Buffaloes website that although the game will not be seen in the Rockies, TV stations in the state of Colorado will try to make a deal with Lincoln Financial Sports to get the game on in Colorado markets.

This would be right up the alley of Altitude. That said though, it's possible that FSN Rocky Mountain could pick it up (Especially since they have the broadcast rights to CU games).

FSN Rocky Mountain could also send a crew of their own as well since Lincoln Financial isn't even a competitor here like they are down south.

Another option would be CSTV, but I don't imagine CU was too pleased being on that network for the CSU game.

JP/LF has done broadcasts on FSN before. Fo9r example the early rounds of the SEC basketball tournament are on FSN (at least here in the South anyway and are run under the JP/LF banner). For those with cable or satalite the game will probably be on ESPN Gameplan But a deal should be made to show the game in the Rocky Mountain area for Colorado fans.

Also It isn't too late for for another network to pick the game up. ESPN still could change the time and run it themselves per the SEC television agreement (I think). CBS gets the first pick of games ESPN gets 2nd pick and the rest is left up to JP/LF. There really isn't any big matchups this week but considering Colorado is 0-3 I don't think CBS will pick it up.

I do feel sympathetic to the Colorado fans in this situation. Yesterday Georgia played UAB and it was only offered via Pay-Per-View on Comcast cable and nowhere else. So more than likely there was no TV for the game and Dawg fans were left to listen to the game and hear the legendary Larry Munson call it (which is definitely a treat but us Georgia fans turn down the sound if the game is on TV anyway to hear Larry)

Since I am extremely familiar with teh Southeastern Conference's current TV contracts, let me correct you on a couple of things. Lincoln Financial gets the 4th pick of SEC games, not third, behind CBS and ESPN (2 picks). Once games are selected by any of the partners, they are the property of that partner and may not be picked up by another nework unless said network buys the game from them. So basically what I'm saying is, there is a 0% chance of ESPN or CBS showing this one.

Because Georgia is the home team, only networks with SEC contracts can pick up the game live. FSN and CSTV cannot carry the game. The best hope Colorado fans have for a free telecast of the game would be for local stations to purcahse the telecast from LF sports.

LF Sports has a deal with ESPN Gameplan, so fans in Colorado will have to buy at least the single-day plan to get the game.

As far as last week's Georgia game vs. UAB, it was available across the country on ESPN Gameplan, outside of the state of Georgia, where it was only available on Comcast. That is an SEC policy as well. If all of the league's TV partners pass on an SEC home game, the home team may show the game on a Pay-per-view basis, but the game can only be purchased individually inside the state of the home team. Outside of the state, the pay-per-view broadcast must be made available to ESPN for its Gameplan service.

Then it's a sure bet that Altitude Sports & Entertainment will no doubt pick it up. I'd be stunned if they didn't!

When Virginia played South Carolina a few years ago, WSET bought the rights from JP to show the game in Roanoke-Lynchburg market.
