Link To Streaming Video Of WWL-4 (New Orleans) Hurricane Coverage

Although Hurricane Katrina is (at this writing, 6 P.M. EDT Saturday August 27th) still some 36-42 hours from landfall (expected to be along the Louisiana Gulf Coast), New Orleans TV station WWL-4 has not only begun live coverage, but are streaming it on their website.

To access the stream, go to www.wwltv.com/perl/common/video/wmPlayer.pl?title=beloint_wwltv&props=noad.

It's possible that at some point prior to Katrina's landfall, given that WWL is a CBS-TV afiliate, the station's coverage of the storm may also be webcast at www.cbsnews.com. If it is, you may find better video and audio quality at the CBS News website because it is set up for more users than WWL's website.

Although I originally posted this information on the Louisiana board, I am also posting it here as a service to other Radio-Info.com users.

It's possible that live streaming video coverage from other New Orleans TV stations may also be posted on-line. If they are, I will try to post links to those webcasts both here and on the Louisiana board.

Given the strength of the storm (currently class 3, expected to be class 4 at landfall, with a couple of staffers at the National Hurricane Center hinting Katrina may even reach class 5 status by landfall), any live webcasts from New Orleans TV (or radio) stations are not guaranteed. For various reasons, the storm could prevent webcasts from being fed to the Internet.

The link you provided was off a bit...here's one that's working for me right now:

Note that as you mentioned, the ability for them to keep this on the Internet may diminish as the storm starts hitting New Orleans.

Link To WDSU-6 Hurricane Coverage

New Orleans' NBC affiliate, WDSU-6, has also begun to stream live hurricane coverage through their website.

Try this link: http://mfile.akamai.com/12912/live/reflector:38202.asx. It will open a Windows Media Player, and actually is a simulcast of Weather Plus, carried over one of WDSU-DT's digital sub-channels. At present, instead of the usual Weather Plus fare of NBC-produced on-camera weather segments combined with local radar and weather maps, you can see WDSU's live storm coverage.

It is also possible that at some point, WDSU's live stream may also be available from MSNBC.com, which may have better technical quality than the stream from WDSU's own website.

Personal observation: The video quality of the WDSU stream very early (2:30 A.M. EDT) Sunday morning was not as good as that of WWL (I have a DSL connection).

Interesting stuff going on at WWL/WDSU

Actually, judging by this page on the Manship School's website, the whole set is chromakey.<P ID="signature">______________
