Your highly accurate, up to date lists, never cease to amaze me. What is it with all these Ballads in overnight, it seems Middle east, and eastern Europe loves to go slow after dark.

Thanks for the kind words as always bro. I think the whole ballads idea works a lot of times in places where there's a heritage factor for it from the days when only a few nationally owned radio stations were to be found on the dial. It could also be a conservative mentality in some markets, where late nights are about taking it slow, and falling asleep. or maybe it just works - a lot of Rhythmic CHRs in America have light night slow jams that work extremely well for them. The best example is Wild 94.9 San Francisco.

True,,,Very true....I remember when I lived in Denver, we had a Dance/Rhythmic chr called JAMMIN 92.1, and it went slow at night. You probably dont remeber that station, it only lasted a few months... Also, when KQKS was on 104.3, it went slow at night, but only for 2 hours a night. the bad thing about both rhythmics going slow at night, it gave us nothing to listen to, so we listened to 93.3 KTCL, and HITS 107.5 instead....Keep in mind, this was in 1996, and Denver did not have a Mainstream Top 40 at the time, without RIMSHOT KKMG 98.9, which was very hard to receive in MORRISON CO, But was very clear around the Airport, and Aurora, and all along I-70, That didnt make any sense.

I do indeed remember Jammin 92.1 I think their transmitter was located at Castle Rock. I also know that KQKS was located on 104.3 for a very long time, even prior to the 90s. They were the reason Y-108 ditched the CHR format in the early 90s I think.
In 1996 wasn't 107.5 K-Hits an Adult Friendly Mainstream CHR?

Oh, and don't forget that nowadays Denver again is one of the few markets with a real CHR :( I still don't understand why neither of the Hot A/C stations has flipped to CHR.

Here in Los Angeles there has also been a tradition of slowing it down after the sun slides down on certain stations. The long defunct KUTE 102 (101.9 FM) pioneered it back in the late 70s, and Hot 92 Jamz (92.3 FM) continues it today. Of course, we have other stations that pump it up at night, such as KBIG (104.3 FM) that has its disco / dance show every evening called "Boogie Nights". For the most part, stations skew toward a younger demographic at night, and tend to introduce more new records during that period to the kids, cruisers and taste makers that do listen at that time. Most of the masses are watching TV, taking care of the kids, or sleeping.

And yes, I agree - CHRles' lists are absolutely wonderful, and amazingly comprehensive. A true public service to the Radio-Info community of readers who want to stream international radio.
