Stations that play an MOR/Easy/Lite/Standards format are getting harder and harder to find. This is very much true, in bigger markets.

I thought it would be nice to have one post to go to find a station. I travel a lot and this would be helpful.

Please share what station you have, or those that you know and may listen to online. Let us know if they are local or piped in.

Are they easy listening, MOR, oldies and so on. Any stations that may talk during some dayparts yet play music overnight or weekend would be welcome to.

I am guessing most will be AM but please add any LPFM, FM and translator stations.

There are some stations that only have a couple of hours a week, specialty shows and such, please tell us about them.

An example would be WBNL in Boonville Indiana, near Evansville that has a unique take on easy listening, a lot of songs that are country or AC, that are not really easy, yet they can be played to keep the station relevent.

To that list, I'd like to add WMT in Cedar Rapids IA. It's a news/talk/information station, but they have a nice show on Sunday afternoons called Musical Memories hosted by Jim Doyne.

Thank you thats what I was looking for. I was in Iowa City a few weekends ago and found Jim's show on AM 600, excellent show! A very rare gem, I greatly enjoyed it and look forward to listening again.
 
Shameless plug, but don't forget KZQX-FM, 100.3 Longview, TX, 97.9 Tyler and now on 1400 AM, Jacksonville, Texas. The format shifts throughout the day, becoming a little more Oldies at drive times, a combination during the day and real standards overnight. It is home grown and operated, with the only satellite service being an hourly Dow Jones Money Report on weekdays. On line at www.kzqx.com or www.qx-fm.com It's also on itunes, Real Player, Tune-In Radio and others.

Plug away! I'm glad you wrote this. I've listened to your translator in Tyler before and start having trouble with it right near the county line.

I had no idea you are on AM 1400, is that recent? I remember that station was either a gospel or Spanish station before. That signal is going to be good for me, as I drive right into Jacksonville.

I really enjoy the station. Today was the first time I looked at your website, I really like the station tour and the tower pic on the homepage.

I hope the stations remain how they are now! It makes that drive much more pleasent for me!
 
For New York, that list is wrong in Albany & Binghamton. WABY is correct, but WKLI should be 590 WROW. 680 WINR has changed formats. Cobelskill WSDE 1190 is correct.

For Massachusetts, they ommitted 1450 WNBP (Newburyport), and which recently added a sister station in Sanford ME., on AM 1220.

We've been simulcasting on KEBE, 1400 AM since late spring. For a 1000 wat AM station, it actualy has pretty good coverage, at least during daytime hours. It is a 24 hour station, but at night, the interference is pretty bad. When it is working, we can also be found on KLJT-HD2, which is 102.3. Of course, you will need a HD radio, which are pretty few and far between.
 
Actually, that list seems rather outdated to me. There are a number of stations listed there that no longer play our music (or any music at all), such as WNTD, KCMN, KRLI, and CKSL. The call letters on AM 740 Toronto are wrong. Also they list WGCY Gibson City as an AM station.

Also, nothing AT ALL listed from my state there? Allow me to chime in:

Since you pointed it out, I scanned the list and also noticed some inaccuracies with both, some of the stations that are listed, and a few omissions. I know of 3 Dial Global stations not listed - WILE 97.7 FM (yes, FM!) in Cambridge OH, WMBG 740 Williamsburg VA, and KOGA 930 Ogallala NE. There's also a nice station in Port Charlotte FL which I think is local, WCVU (Seaview) 104.9.

That list, as well as similar listings for other formats, was comprised by R-I message board contributor Scholarm1111 who posted the link here a few years ago. But I see that original link to the homepage no longer works. (I kept the list specifically for EZ/Standards in my favorites). So, if Scholarm1111 is still reading these boards, it would be helpful to learn if he's still maintaining those listings. If not, it's still the only such listing I'm aware of. Maybe a good project for me to work on some cold, rainy Sunday afternoon while watching a football game, would be to go down that list one by one to see which stations should be removed.
 
WNBP (1450/Newburyport, MA) signed on an FM translator a couple of weeks ago and at the same time changed their format from standards to oldies. I haven't had the chance to tune in since the switchover so I don't know how drastic the change was. It's not standards anymore though, from what I hear.
 
After a little prowling around, apparently WNBP has not switched away from it's "legends" format as was reported elsewhere. It's still standards.

WNBP-1450 just added their FM translator at 106.1 within past week; Only 90 watts from a 200-foot tower but gets out well, in stereo!
 
They are. I had the chance to listen to both when I was in New England for vacation this summer. Alas, they do not stream as the owner doesn't believe in it. Too bad, I think just about everyone on this list would approve of his selections. Even VChimp!
 
They do. Both stations are run by one guy, Bob Bittner. That's it. No salespeople. He runs a radiothon on each station to pay for operating expenses; electricity, equipment upkeep and replacement when needed, music, computer expenses etc. I don't think he even takes a salary. Normally it only takes him a few weeks to raise the money needed to keep the stations going for the entire year.

He occasionally will do a live shift but for the most part both signals are automated and separately programmed. Outside of a few PSA's, it's continuous music. His mix has become a little more contemporary in recent years, but is still much older than the satellite services. He still includes a few B/EZ instrumentals an hour, and the eras go from the 40's to a small smattering of 80's songs. I think the youngest track I've heard him play is "From A Distance" from Bette Midler. The sweet spot is the 50's through early 70's. It's a unique mix that I haven't heard other stations in the format run.

Which is why I refer to WJIB/WJTO as "The Bittner Twins".

If he doesn't take a salary, I wonder how he makes a living off those stations, or does he do something else to supplement his income? If all it takes is a few weeks of fundraising to keep those stations going, there's a lot to be said for that! If it was up to me, this could and should be a model for stations with niche formats to consider; either that or a hybrid revenue model, where the station survives on both donations and advertisement. For stations on AM, especially those who are not major players in their market, such a model might be the best option!

It's a shame that the AM band has been relegated to offering little else but news, talk, sports, ethnic and religious programming. It shouldn't have to be that way. I feel my suggestions might be worth a consideration.

Interesting ideas. If I was to suggest anything to Mr. Bittner, it would be to add more contemporary tunes appropriate to the format. Musicians like Harry Connick, Jr. and Michael Buble could work as could Diana Krall. A song such as "Kissing A Fool" by George Michael would also be appropriate. As far as B/EZ material, why not include certain tacks form albums such as "Twins Sons of Different Mothers" by Tim Weisberg and Dan Fogelberg, Natalie Cole's "Unforgettable With Love"; artists such as Jonathan Cain, Acoustic Alchemy, Henry Mancini; as well as others.
 
Bittner is very satisfied with the gold nature of his stations. I do notice very minor music tweaks every now and then, and he is very particular about what he adds. He segued from being a pure B/EZ to standards a few years ago. I think he's still letting that settle in with his audience. One of the endearing things about his stations is you know what to expect. He doesn't have a website and doesn't webstream. He simply plays songs he likes on the radio....living the dream all of us have!
