I think it would be smarter if Paula or Ed Histed were running the format. Each has run that format correctly in the past. Paula at Lite 105 WWDL and Ed at 95.3 WDNH. At first I thought Paula was running things because it had so much of that Lite 105 feel and then as Emeril would say "BAM!" you got hit with an early 60's skunk that makes you say "...what the hell??" Ira, My gut says go with Paula for Lite. She programmed a true quality AC product that was stifled on the live sound because of the older type of automation. In the new world of automation, her format would give the great music and live sounding interaction that NEPA has been missing for so long.

Aren't we all. I'm sure we'd all take the worst of the worst in the old days
rather than the best and the brightest of today. You'd see a difference in
standards. The John Tesh Show is just light entertainment. Give me a raging
lunatic anyday or even a drunk Polka jock.....please.
I listen to WNAK, but miss WICK's Oldies. The only daily salvation I have is the WARM True Oldies format, even if it means hearing Scott Shannon 24/7. I got this thing at work called a nano something I won in a sales contest. The thing is about as big as my middle finger and it's seperated into different pieces on my coffee table. They tell me when I put it together, I'll be able to listen to anything I want from the computer. I don't see any knobs on the gizmo so that's throwing me a bit. Oh well, maybe I can pull in some John Tesh or Yanni tunes to really mess the thing up.

In addition to working at WBAX, Roger was part of a grand radio experiment that has to be chronicled somewhere in local radio lore. Back in the mid 70s the government had the CETA program. (Comprehensive Employment Training Act). WVIA TV and FM got their hands on major grant money and had a plethora of staff paid by CETA. (Well, a few, not a plethora). Employment ranged from Secretaries to On Air people. No matter where the paycheck came from, it was still radio. Roger Heydt was hired, then David Kush, a guy by the name of Ed Karpovich, a guy from Scranton named Marty Noone (who died in the late seventies), I believe Shadoe Steele who was hired for engineeering over on TV did some air work as well as a woman by the name of Susan who's last name I don't remember. Anyway, WVIA FM went dark after midnight because of budget cuts in 1976. I had done the overnight classical show from 1975 thru '76 weekdays with John Kelly doing weekends. We took over for Al Tilley who established the midnight show. When the station went off the air at midnight, management decided to use the CETA staff to begin a new era in public broadcasting. It was an overnight news and public affairs show called THE DAY BEGINS AT MIDNIGHT. (I think Roger actually thought it up). For 2 years, overnights at WVIA FM were filled with news stories and features. It lasted uintil the early 1980s when the only guy left was the board op, Karpovich. Funding had been cut by the Reagan administration and one by one, the staff of TDBAM matriculated elsewhere. It was a grand local news experiment and Roger Heydt was a big part of it.
