Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

??? What the heck is going on? This format just started and it was pretty good, actually there was nothing like it in Charleston, and very listenable.

Now they are sounding like some of the rest of the same mediocre FM stations in Charleston, playing music of today (with no rap). C'mon , can't somebody do something different?????

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

We will miss their wonderful programming on I-95 and I-26 to the coast

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

I love the brand new mix 95.9 sounds better than 95sx in my mind also i hope this change don't affect kickin 92.5

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

Oh cool, Mix 95.9? Sounds interesting. Have to give it a listen. Needs to have personalities.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

Not really related to Mix 95.9 since I haven't heard it yet or even seen anything about it, but I wonder if 92.5 will be the next to go. Apex seems to like switching formats around. I thought 96.9 or 92.5 would have thrown in the towel by now, but neither have. I don't think the market can sustain 3 country stations long term. Cumulus may be committed to country on 96.9, as they've started up several country stations recently. IMO there's definitely room for 2, but the question is, will the second one be 92.5 or 96.9?

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

This seems to be the short history of 95.9 in Charleston. They start with something different build on it and then when it starts to sound pretty good they change it. I know another local company that seems to do that a lot also, must be a new trend.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

NOOOOOO!!!!  :'(

The station was one of the best in the Charleston Area. Minor inconvience, as we'll always have the ability to listen to WDUV Tampa Bay. And, people going to columbia still have Carolina 92.1 on the weekends and nighttime hours.

But still, it was unique!!! It actually was relaxing. Now, it's like all of the other stations in the state.

Then again, chances are that the station was just a jukebox. Very little ad support, not marketed to the younger demographics (i think that a supersoft AC can aim to the younger demos if the cards are played right), and there was barely a DJ on.

Well, what about the ratings? All.... 1.7 of them......

Well, i'm sad now. It was nice while it lasted.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

OK so I am wondering if Mix is Hot AC what will they think they can do different that they were not able to do with The Coast?

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

 I guess I am just angry. The "lite and easy" format was really very, very good and listenable. The best in Charleston radio in a long time!! Finally, a decent station that sounded different in the land of multiple country stations, several mix, contemporary stations that all sounded alike, etc... The format was started i believe in October, 2011 and then the geniuses stopped it in late October-November 2011 to go Christmas programming, which really sucked IMO. Then they came back after Christmas..and dumped "lite and easy" format the other day.. to run yet another contemporary "mix" station....UNFRRRU*KING BELIEVEABLE!!

This market has no oldies stations, except the somewhat part-oldies beach format on 1340 AM, which probably is not long to survive, and 98.9 which plays mostly 70s music but has a crappy signal here in Mt Pleasant .

Why do we need 3 country music stations on FM playing the same contemporary country?? There is no difference between any of them, IMO
Why do we need HOW many sports stations? 950AM, 1390AM, 1450, 980AM, 99.3 FM, and games that break in on the the NEWS TALK stations 94.3 and 1250AM ? This is riduculous...
Why do we need how many SPANISH stations? Give me a break...

So if one of you radio CEO program director geniuses read these comments, here is what needs to be done immediately:

1. Bring back the "lite and easy" format on one of the country stations, or one of the "mix" stations, or the dead 98.1fm ... but bring it back... dammmmmm :(
2. Switch formats on country 96.9 and News talk 1250 (same company). Put NewsTalk on 96.9 and make 1250AM country- but a diffferent country/rock alternative oldies/classic station
3. DO NOT break into news stations on weekends with sports games !

I will look forward to some of my changes being made immediately... or else I will just listen to some great stations online on my IPHONE,,,lol

Its a shame no one cares about the listener anymore on Charleston radio. we are being driven away

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

Apex does do that a lot with 95.9. Their 4th format in less than 3 years. Started as oldies, did very well I felt, then suddenly flipped it to country, then Lite after the country format moved to 92.5, and now this format.

99.3 and 980 AM are Spanish now. 910 is sports. Apex basically treats 95.9 now, IMO, as their testing ground. If it gets good ratings and demographics, it stays on. If not, try another format. There weren't any personalities on Lite, so it's just re-imaging.

1340 has a loyal following. They have been on beach music probably four or five years, and have the Clemson sports rights, which gives them a lot of revenue.

Mix is trying to go after 102.5, and I can't really blame them. 102.5 is one boring radio station. Will be interesting to see how they do, or how long they'll give it.
So far, there's nothing on Mix 95.9 online, that I can find.

I'll say one last time, oldies should have stayed on 95.9 and Kickin' should have just gone on to 92.5. Lite 95.9 was, essentially, just a watered down, sleepy version of 95.9-IOP. I'd take the latter any day. The only stable stations Apex seems to have on FM are 99.7 and 101.7.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

I laughed today after their liner "Today's Best Music without the rap" then segued into Taio Cruz "Heartbreaker" with Ludacris's RAP at the beginning! Haha!

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

That Apex bunch knows how to change'em that's for sure. I think this makes about 4 format changes in the past 11 or 12 months. Oldies to country; sports to spanish; hip-hop to country and old country to lite ac for 6 months then Mix...They have Chuck and Star doing fine but can't seem to make up their mind on the other stuff.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

I don't spend time in Charleston, but to me WIOP wasn't soft enough. WEZV/WGTN-FM in Myrtle Beach is more like it. I doubt too many Charleston residents can pick up WGTN, being sandwiched between two Contemporary Christian stations.

They must have read your post cause they are now playing the version without Ludacris on it.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

There is one station in the Charleston market I might like. I only heard 98.9 FM after dark when Tom Kent was on, but I liked what I heard.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

Just goes to show the far reaching and long lasting consequences of a mistake made when they were an oldies station. They had it going on back then.

Re: Lite 95.9 in Charleston has lights turned off. Now it's the "New Mix" !!

Kickin' 92.5 is diffrent from 103.5 wezl and 96.9 the wolf as they play more 70s 80s 90s country mixed in with todays country this is why i think it will last with 103.5
