LIVE 105 goes 100% listener controlled via the internet M-F 8PM -MID

I can kinda guess why this was tried. Haven't seen Live's hour-by-hour PPMs but if they're at all similar to what Energy's were, after 8 PM they drop to near zero. Therefore anything that might have a hook to bring people in might be worth a shot. After 8, the P1's are either watching TV or out at the club (the reasoning went).

I love the idea behind this...but it doesn't play out so well (at least not on weeknights).

They have this on Sunday nights 10-Mid and it's great. The catalog is much bigger and there are plenty of fairly obscure songs that I know I've gotten on air.

But on weeknights it's limited, so far, to the same currents and recurrents that they play over and over again. Maybe a handful of other songs, total. I've listened to it during those hours and honestly can't tell a difference musically between then and most other times.

I've tried it out during the week a few times and I can't help but get the feeling that the songs that are being rocketed and voted on are controlled by a 'higher power' making the idea of listener votes just a facade.

I miss Pete Mar too. :( Got no qualms about Menace though.

Guess what? It's probably just the old "all request" bit. 4-5 request slots per hour, and the rest of the music formatted in Selector, just like almost every music station in America.

sad truth is thats what people request, the same stuff you hear over and over, thats what gets ratings. rarities, b sides and album cuts get the station turned off in a ppm world. sad truth.
whats totally wrong with this is only 30 people are voting on the songs. probably the same people every night.
live 105 is alienating its entire audience for 30 people with bad taste.
come on cbs, get smart, live is already failing, do something to make it good again, not completely destroy it.

The type of people those cuts "turn on" to Live 105 probably couldn't be bothered with a PPM device. So they'd listen, but wouldn't be counted.

A CBS property & CBS is kicking - - - with their Classic Hits/Oldies stations in NY, LA, Phoenix & Tampa, to name a few!

Wouldn't be a surprise at all to see it go that direction!

As most on here would agree, that was a half-assed attempt that had no direction!

Station had no excitement factor or any real identifying sound!

They were trying to revive the KFRC of the past, instead of starting new! Big mistake....Listeners did not respond!

CBS pulled the plug...For what turned out to be very smart move, in simulcasting KCBS!

However, with a fresh approach, still a huge hole for Oldies/60's & 70's Classic Pop/Rock/R&B Hits in the market!

Eh, Just listen to Kearth 101 on the internet. That's my oldies.
