Here's a wakeup call..... The people at KKGO think the message boards are a joke! Especially because they're taking credit for getting country back.

Don't shoot the messenger! Just a reality check!

Let me correct that.... in my opinion the people at KKGO think their listeners are a joke as that is how they treat them. Funny though, a number of listeners think some talent is a joke.

Truer words were never spoken, shirley!

Those at KKGO must have not got the memo...
Saul Levine said that he received dozens of letters from the public pleading for him to bring back Country programming ..."Hundreds of emailers and callers"

SAUL LEVINE stated that the fans, the public brought country music back to LA and the Orange County via 540AM than 1260AM and then 105 Go Country FM. He also stated that they started playing the music early after numerous callers requested it and one man called in crying ... THAT IS PASSION!

SO the memo should state it was the fans of country music and NOT a couple phone calls made my one person, NOT one person did this... there were about 15-20 people as a part of COUNTRYBOARDS.COM that made the calls, sent the letters, wrote the e-mails... One person making ribbons, paying for press releases and ads in trade magazines.... Others making flyers and banners and passing them out. People collecting addresses for broadcasters, newspapers, and anyone that they thought might help.
When 540AM came so did the thread on those boards listing advertisers that people contacted to let them know that they were appreciated and that the listeners would not only support the station but also the advertisers that were aired on it.

SO bottom line is COUNTRYBOARDS.COM no matter WHO thinks it is a joke is in reality the foundation of KKGO... Saul Levine listened to the fans of country music, heard their pleas and gave them a country music station.

We have all discussed loyal listeners, what SOME listeners would like from the station... as of today, from what I have read on the message boards the station thinks is a joke are words of loyal listeners walking away from the station, turning off their radios over NOT the loss of live callers, but the loss of Todd Baker, a very popular and highly rated radio personality that was let go with no word ... the fans thought that he would return from his vacation today and instead found he is no longer on the radio station...

How many times can someone shoot themselves in the foot before they fall? I guess KKGO will keep shooting until they find that answer out....

IF Todd Baker should cross these boards and stop to read them, YOU WILL BE MISSED, the station doesn't know what they threw away... prayers going up that you will find a spot where your talents can shine. I know you will land on your feet and do well wherever you end up...

keep repeating it...cross your fingers...close your eyes...and "believe"...
but there's NO WAY the decision to put country on 105.1 was made solely by calls and e-mails...even the teary call.
Saul (and any other owner) has to be able to make $$$... gotta stay afloat, and this was the obvious choice for him.
and while he is aware and appreciates the callers/e-mails...and yes "the passion"...the decision would have been made
without them. not trying to be an ass...but youse guys have inflated your importance in all this: you are important...
all listeners are...but not to the degree you'd like to believe. the numbers just aren't there.

No one is inflating their importance as there was alot of research done.
Of course the flip was about money... many of the letters laid out in proposal form the reasons why listeners felt that money could be made in having a country radio station in LA.
A person does not make a plea or suggestion (a proposal) without researching the pros and cons of the request which allows the person making the request to have a realistic outlook on whether the request will be granted.

Not only was the research done, but handed to Saul by the lady who helped to direct fans of country music. In fact some of that research appeared in one of the many press releases the fans did and released nation wide (still available on the internet I might add).

At that time the bottomline is that if a station in the Los Angeles market had any station pulling ratings lower than 1.0 could profit from a flip to country music with out doing much more than that. Mt. Wilson had such a station. As it appears KKGO currently is leveling off at 1.4 and therefore Saul has more profit. Why bother doing anything else?

How if another station in the LA market flipped to country tomorrow, picked up a few hosts (I already know would be willing to do this) who have a huge fan bases and place advertising & promotion in their budget, they could easily get a 2.0.

Remember, the previous broadcast company who owned th eold station attemted an advertising campaign all based on billboards months before pulling everything. They put all their eggs in one basket (mostly). Promotions had already suffered before then, thus ratings fell.

Yes, the country music market has had a few declines lately and that is why I am not projecting the old KZLA 2.5 rating. But I know it can be done. And if a station flipped format to country music tomorrow and gave KKGO a run for it's money... Saul would just flip again and we'd be back to one station in LA.

What you said, RebaFan, & said better than I could.

agreed

I think the decision to air or not to air callers depends on the positioning of the station. Will people listen to personality-driven formats? Well, apparently not a lot because so many stations no longer use personalities. If having a personality-driven format meant that a station could rise to #2 in its demo, you could bet that everybody'd be jumping on the personality bandwagon. Stations went to "more music" formats decades ago because they discovered that this is what people wanted.

Whether this will play out during these days of Internet and satellite music services I don't know. But I'd say that there is still some room for music stations out there.

Hey y'all, keep it up, and before you know it, it will be Smooth 105, the new urban jazz station. If you like the music, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. Your calls are not as interesting or important as you seem to think they are. Nobody cares, except you.
