Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis - Saturday, July 7, 2007

How is Universal/NBC handleing this? I noticed only Bravo, CNBC, Sundance and the NBC network are carrying it. Is it going to be cherry picking preformances? XM is using 7 of their rock stations to broadcast each location live. I'm wondering what Universal/NBC is going to do, and why the don't spill some of it over to USA and MSNBC like the Olympics

Err should've had the the US concert in Philadelphia, like the other live events. Live 8 has almost a million people show up. Giants Stadium isn't even sold out (only the UK show sofar). Also its a bit funny that a concert dubbed by the LA time "24 hours of music to help the planet," is being held on a complex built on wetlands (with all roads leading in on wetlands aswell), but the concert is really about GW, so I guess it doesn't matter that much.

I am going to be watching this hopefully from beging to end. I will be fliping through all the cchannels i get that day.

I'm just wondering how a climate in crisis is helped by using obscene amounts of electricity, much of it from coal-fired power plants (at least in the US), to put on these concerts, and by burning millions of pounds (or kilograms, if you prefer) of fossil fuels in order to transport the various bands and their equipment to and from the concert venues. ??? ??? ???

Well, I guess it's better than more infomercials.

The cable networks are presenting a "best of" and have sliced down several performances. The best part about watching the Live Earth concerts online is not being held at the mercy of either Universal HD, sundance channel, CNBC, Bravo, or NBC. You can pick and choose which concert to watch, LIVE, as it's airing.

As I type this, Metallica's performing in London at Wembley Stadium, followed by a 25-minute standup set by Ricky Gervais. He'll then introduce Spinal Tap.

Live Earth New York starts in 16 minutes LIVE from Giants Stadium.

From http://www.liveearth.org

With support from the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED Green Building Rating System, Live Earth will implement new Green Event Guidelines. All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners and other Live Earth affiliates. Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices.

The Live Earth proceeds are all going to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit organization.

i am watching NY until spinal tap comes on. I love spinal tap.

They're on right now. They're playing the song "Stonehenge". Two little people are dancing around small Stonehenge stones. David St. Hubbins just took a call on his cell phone during an instrumental break in the song. Nigel came out saying, "Hello Wimbledon!"

This is great! :)

The concert is to promote AWARENESS, at least that is how I've seen it billed not to actually do anything to help the environment in the short term. :)
