LIVE, LOCAL, COMMUNITY RADIO IS COMING BACK TO SOUTH METRO

If I recall, Magic was the only station that was 100% live and local while you were GM. WCOH was 75% live and local. WVCC was 30% live and local. Joe, wasn't the decision to made that some syndicated shows would be placed on air like Ludlow Porch and Rush Limbaugh as well as Classic Country Gold, Chick Chat, Fox Sports South, Duke an the Doctor as well as other shows? What's going to be different? How long will being "Live and Local" going to last?

Josh,
Why do you throw weekend shows and specialty shows in as your example of stations not being "Live and Local"? And I don't recall ever saying that the CC Newnan stations were 100% Live and Local anyway. When we changed WVCC to "720 The Voice" We had live in studio shows in AMD, Mid and PMD. The only syndicated was Rush and that was dictated by CC. (would have done it anyway since I was only charged a few hundred dollars a month to carry the most listened to show in talk radio!) We only carried Fox Sports after 7pm during the time of the year that we were on late. WCOH was live in amd, locally VT by our office manager in mid day, and satellite the rest of the day. You are right... Magic was the only one that was live and local all day long. 6a-7p. They stayed that way until I was gone. What happened after that I take no responsiblilty or joy over.

92.5 The Bear is now live and local from 6a till 12 mid Mon-Friday. I have no plans to change that. We will have recorded shows on the weekend along with some live ones. But I tell you this... no station in the South Metro will be more live, more local, more involved than will be 92.5 The Bear.
Joe

Joe if I recall...Ludlow was a weekday show. For the year and five months I worked for you, the only times 720 was live and local was from sun-up to 10 am when Rich and a co-host filled the time slot and from 3 pm until 6pm (or sun-down, which ever came first) with the many of the afternoon show line ups which did include me. It wasn't until mid-summer of 2005 that a show was added to the mid-day slot on WVCC. I remeber you wanting to add a live mid-day slot

I guess my point that I want to get to is this: Even in Newnan you did claim that the Newnan/LaGrange cluster was "Live and Local." In many print ads, this was the cluster's motto. How do we, as listeners, know you will keep your word and not go synicated. if I remeber correctly, we the people own the airwaves and have the right to ask questions of the people who use these airwaves. I don't want to see a back slide on this promise that you are proclaming on this board.

Josh.... I guess that final conversation you and I had is still in your mind. Sorry about that. Your dislike is showing.
Now... when I see you being so indignant about all the other things going on in Radio... I'll start worrying about breaking my word to you. And as far as the "public airwaves" ... we will be doing about ten times what the FCC asks radio stations to do to serve our community. How about you wait until I at least do something wrong before you start spanking me about the fact that "I might" do something. BTW... I don't think we ever advertised the entire cluster as 100% Live and Local. Just Magic.
Bear is Live and Local and I plan on keeping it that way.
thanks for coming
joe

Honestly Joe,
My dislike is not showing. I don't dislike you. Our last conversation doesn't play into this conversation. I am going by track record. I worked for you Joe and I know who you can be when it comes to decisions and shows. I believe the year and five months I worked for the Newnan cluster, Magic went through 5 morning shows on your whim. Seven if you include the solo work Heather and Pam did. WVCC went through 7 afternoon shows on YOUR whim. Do i dare bring up Sinaca Horton. You thought it would be a "great idea" to have her lack of experience on the air. Who can forget when you decided to change Jackie and Chris' (both having over over 20 years experience between them) show to mid days and put Kurt Snyder's show in their place...on your whim. WVCC went through 3 or 4 morning shows in a 17 month period on your whime. So I don't think it's "dislike" showing through but a track record. Listeners were constantly complaining about the constant changes. Go back and look at some of the posts on thi board about the dislike for the changes.

Josh

Oh Joe, I got the ad abd business cards to prove that you DID advertise all three tations were LIVE and LOCAL...Ican bring it by if you want to see them.

Oh Josh... so much you do not know about what was happening. If you think I just changed shows and formats on a whim you really were just floating thru the hallways! Yes, on 720AM we were trying a lot of different teams, shows, and ideas to try and find what would work on a 10,000 watt AM daytimer. Trust me, it ain't easy! We did move people around... btw... Chris and Jackie came in early every morning and working till 6pm seemed to be getting to them. There were LOTS of reasons for those moves I made and none of them were on a whim. It must be very pretty in that world you were living in. And as far as not likeing the changes... you are right lots of people that didn't know WHY I was having to make some changes didn't like them... including you. And BTW... I didn't like having to make a lot of them either! Things like putting a link to porn on our website, picking up a printer and throwing it at a wall, foul language on the air, not showing up for work, and just sounding like you don't really care while you are on the air all make for reasons that stations have to make changes. Those certainly were not a whim!

Ok.. I don't remember advertising all three stations as Live and Local... but if you say you have a "ad abd business card" to prove it, I believe you. Which just makes me wonder... what's your point? How many stations claim to play the "most" music? To be the "number one" station? To be the "most listened" to station. I will say this... when we got them to where we wanted them, no stations in this area were more live and local than those three. Even when we were on sattelite we had local weather and traffic, local calendars, etc. We may not have been perfect in your eyes... but why not give those same three stations a listen now and compare. BTW... heard that Benji resigned today. Got a great new job out of radio. Congratulations Benji, you deserve it.

That's enough Josh... if you have more to say you have my number. Thanks for your interest in 92-5 The Bear.

No Joe,
Joe, I am not making snid remarks like "it must be pretty on the world you live in" or "just floating in the hallways." I do not have your number or I would give you a call to discuss this futher. Merely floating in the hallways wasn't an opition between booking guests, running the Trading Post and running show. You must admit that I earned the money I made and kept to myself. As for personel decisions, I AGREE there were several people who needed to go out the door with a pink slip...a PD from Jan 04-July 05. That PD cause more trouble than what was needed. I also will agree with you that many of the shows were in response to people quitting.

I have enjoyed this discussion Joe! I hope there aren't any hard feelings. I would like to give you a call sometime to talk with you about a historical project I am working on concerning a DJ and station we know of.

Josh... you were one of the hardest working people I had. No question. My comments were made in a light hearted spirt.. not meaning to be snid. My point was you were not seeing the whole picture... you did not live in the world I was having to live in. If you thought I was just doing all of those things on a whim you could not have been aware of what all was happening around you.

There are absolutely no hard feelings. Feel free to call me at the radio station anytime.

thanks
joe
