Local Media Reaction to the Miami Heat Championship Win

I decided to check out the sites of the local stations in South Florida to see how they're covering it. So far, WPLG (the ABC station), WSVN and WFOR are providing live video of the celebrations. WTVJ has a link but for aerial photos. It is not working anyway. As an aside, I checked out the local West Palm Beach TV station sites. One, WPEC, is linking to the live feed from CBS News. WPTV just has the breaking news alert. WPBF (the ABC station) has an interactive live app available for downloading. WFLX just has the story from the AP linked up on their site.

Yep, it looks like from cursory reading that for the folks north of the Dade-Broward line it was just another night.

Considering that basketball season ended with the NCAA Division I Basketball National Championship, I would agree that is was just another night.

Yes, NCAA Division I, America's other professional basketball league. ;D Don't hate on the NBA when the NCAA is a multi-billion dollar business.

Lack of hype outside of the winner's immediate market is pretty typical.

There are two NBA teams in Florida and I suspect the loyalties shift to the Orlando Magic not too far north of Miami.
I also think it's true that sports like basketball and hockey have very intense followings in small geographic areas. Football and baseball teams seem to have bigger "footprints" for their fan bases.

I'll never understand college basketball partisans like yourself who won't follow many of the stars that have made it enjoyable to the NBA--where many of them improve their game and deservedly become superstars. Your political stance (and it is political, just not in the left-right-D-versus-R sense) will keep you from enjoying next-generation talents like Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Rajon Rondo, and Kyrie Irving--all of whom were star players in college.

Your loss.

What I'm sick and tired of is the constant media scrutiny of two
athletes: Tiger Woods and LeBron James. Tiger wins a tournament,
suddenly he's back, then he blows it (as he did at the U.S. Open), and
it becomes "what's the matter with Tiger?". LeBron, as ESPN pointed out
this morning, is scrutinized not only from game to game but quarter to
quarter. And if the people in Cleveland don't like it because he went to
Miami, that's their tough luck; like any professional athlete, he's in it for
the money.

Tiger may or may not break Jack Nicklaus' record of winning 18 majors,
but I think LeBron has plenty of years left. At any rate, sports media,
get off both their cases.
