Yesterday we witnessed yet again what happens to local radio because big corporate run radio station clusters eliminated their news departments. There is nobody to cover major news events. WKIP did send someone to file a report via cell phone. While it was the only story on their regular local news breaks, they kept using that dated report including erroneously stating that the Poughkeepsie Train Station was closed well after it was obviously incorrect. I know there was not much information to relate ,but , at least “News Talk 1450” should have what information they put on the air up to date and accurate .I don’t know if they carried the news conference around 5:00PM,I had given up by then .Clear Channel should drop the news part of their1450 moniker and just call it Talk Radio.
To be clear although it seems ,so I am not just picking on WKIP. I didn’t spend much time listening to the other stations because I didn’t expect much from them either. It’s a fact, we can get, like yesterday more information on a major local news story from NYC TV stations than local radio. The Poughkeepsie Journal web site was also fairly up to date.
