I haven't heard much talk in a while about a Local Radio Hall of Fame. Every day that passes, we lose a few memories and some of those great personalities of years gone by......Never know, it might inspire a few new "greats". Any discussion? Any interest? Any Ideas? Any deep pockets to help?

It's how you use it.

If it does happen...the "Duke of Madness" from 'BCN has to be nominated. I had him as a professor in college and the man is a radio legend.

I second that,

Long live the Duke

Yes !!! Let's move on The Hall of Fame

Great idea that has been mentioned before. My suggestion is that the Ansin Building which is part of Emerson College on Tremont Street in Boston would be an ideal location for the Boston/Massachusetts Radio/Television Hall of Fame. That building was the home for many years of radio station 590 WEEI one of the first radio stations in the area and a few other early radio station were located in that area in office buildings and hotel. The old WHDH 850 and later its television station WHDH-TV Channel 5 were located across town on St.James Avenue and Arlington Street on the top floor of the old Paine Furniture building now home to Davio's restaurant [ which looks like they just moved out the furniture and set up tables, but that's another issue for elsewhere].
So, great idea. How do we move it forward. Suggestion: members of Len Zola's Media Gang should get behind this.

FWIW, I agree. I worked with Jerry at WCGY and enjoyed what little time I could spend with him. I'd also nominate John Garabedian and Uncle Dale as well.

Sunny Joe for certain he should have his own damned WING in the place!....., Oedipus, JoJo "Cookin' " Kincaid, JJ WRight, Carter Allan, Opie and Anthony, (like it or not they started in Boston and definately made some mark)...Johnny Dark,(thats old skool!)..man we could be here all day!

A year or two ago I was about to see a minor league baseball game with the Akron (OH) Aeros (was visiting a friend in the area) and we saw some kind of radio/TV museum for Cleveland/Akron nearby. May have just been some kind of exhibit in a sporting goods store--so, temporary--but it was fun to see, especially since there were pics and memorabilia of Cleveland personalities who later went national.

As for us some names pop up: Jerry Williams, Dave Maynard, David Brudnoy,
Johnny Most, Ned Martin, Ken Coleman, Don Cusick, Gil & Geno (Pats),
various veteran sports talkers (Andelman, Bell, etc.),
Charles Laquidara, and many more

Well speaking for Generation X I'd say Nik Carter has to be put in that class. Anyone who's in their 20's-mid 30's would nominate him. If it's gonna be a hall of fame it should represent all generations!

Internet Museum

I don't understand why this can't be an online museum rather than an expensive location, or even why you'd want to to be *just* radio. Think of Airchexx, but much more expansive.

And Close The Louvre While You Are At It.......

Yeah, let's close the Louvre too and photograph everything and just put it on the Internet. Look at all the travel expenses we would save.

Re: And Close The Louvre While You Are At It.......

Have you ever stood in line trying to get INTO the Louvre? You wouldn't be so flippant! :)

Actually, I was shocked...yes SHOCKED...to see a line at least 1000 people long waiting to get into the Louvre on a pleasant summer weekday, and the next day I was getting a great tour of the Musee de Radio France with but a paltry three other people! That's an outrage! ;-)

Re: And Close The Louvre While You Are At It.......

All this brings to mind that great 'enry Higgins line from My Fair Lady: "The French don't care what they do actually as long as they pronounce it properly."
Still, an Internet Hall of Fame is not the answer.

Yeah, because an audio medium should be locked away with some pictures and other artifacts because everyone is going to travel to Boston for radio. Radio is an audio medium and audio is the way it should be presented. When it's just online it won't have all the costs of a building, full time staff, etc.

Why not both ?

should be an actual place...

An internet site would not do it justice. How about recreations of vintage radio studios? Tapes available to the publc for listening? Posters? Top 40 "hitlists"
from back in the day? Photographs? Costumes? The list is endless...
It would not need to be a stand-alone location - it could be, for example, a few rooms at, say, the Museum of Science, as a permanent exhibit.

I saw a museum in D.C. several years ago called the Newseum - a museum of broadcast news. Great artifacts on view, some really cool muti-media stuff.
Definitely worth a visit!

Less jaw work - more paw work! ;0)
