Location of 1440 KAZG Transmitter (and others in the PHX area?)

Hey people, I'm new here because I was looking for information on "Arizona Gold", in specific the location of their transmitter. I'm a pilot and we use some AM stations for navigation and it'd be interesting to know some more transmitters' locations.

We use KCKY often, that's AM 1150, and located just north of Coolidge.

I've listened to KAZG, but don't know where their transmitter is. Could anyone that knows tell me? Also, I know they lower their output at night. Does anyone know what power they transmit at during day and night? At what time do they switch?

Does anyone know the location of any other AM stations in the Phoenix and Tucson area?

Thanks for any help!

The KAZG stick is in the lumberyard at Thomas Rd. and 64th St. in Scottsdale.

5kw-D, 52w-N--however they hardly ever use their nighttime authority during evening/overnight, only in the early morning until monthly sunrise time, if applicable. For quite a while they had been signing on at 0600, however a thread a couple months ago reported they were now coming on at 0500, IIRC. This if nothing else makes KAZG one of our favorite whipping boys here on the Tanim Board.

Earliest monthly sunrise (sign-on or power up) is 0515 in June. The coordinates for any AM stick(s) and monthly sunrise/sunset times are on the FCC AM Query site (http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/amq.html).

If you're headed to Tucson, the first AM site you'll want to home in on is probably the Giant 580 (KSAZ Marana).

Thanks! Unfortunately, that puts it in Class B airspace, which you can't go into without a clearance and if you're already doing that, you usually won't be navigating with AM radio stations. ;D

The other info is interesting, though. That explains why we don't get it at night. I guess we'll just keep using it for daytime entertainment only, not for navigation.

Thanks also for the FCC website, I'll use that to check out some more stations. And I'll check out KSAZ.

KAZG's tower is behind the Ponderosa Lumber Company at 6425 E. Thomas Rd. in Scottsdale. They have never operated later than local sunset AFAIK, but are authorized to run a mighty 52 watts at night. They do use their nighttime power during the winter between their 6 AM sign-on and local sunrise.

Here are the other transmitter locations (approximate & from memory - corrections welcome. Check Radiolocator.com for exact coordinates & Google for maps):

I was listening to them this morning at about 5:45 driving into work. They had to be running the full 5000 watts since their signal in Ahwahtukee was perfect.

And legally too! Something we've not always been able to say about a few
other local stations.

July sign-on/power-up is 0530, down/off at 1945. August: 0545-1915.
Each station's monthly times are in their FCC AM Query listing.

KTAR 620: 38th St. & Thomas Rd. in the parking lot of whatever Tower Plaza Mall is called now.

One stick is in the parking lot, the other behind the apartments on 38th Street. Nurse Jeff and I have seen a bunch of day laborers relieving themselves on the parking lot tower. Probably explains why the ground conductivity is pretty decent on the Big 6~twenty ;D

Anyone using 620 for air navigation west of Buckeye runs the risk of autopiloting into the ground at Tecate.
