Just wanted to say hello. My friend, Jack Friday, sent me a link to this site today, which until about 20 minutes ago, I never knew existed. It's fun to read some of these posts. I still have a lot of fond memories from my 8 years in the Bay Area.

Thanks! Your memory is pretty good! But "Earl" was my security guard. I can see why you might have been confused though... The man talked a lot of trash -- he just never carried it out!

KYUU was a great station, and in my opinion, you were the most consistently entertaining - and funniest DJ on the station. I hope you check in here from time to time.

Yes...the KYUU site is just damn cool....Thanks, Jeff. Good to see some of the great talent from those days back here.

The 80s (just a bit before my time...not by much) were really a good time to be in radio in SF.

Thanks for the warm welcome, gents. Yes Lou, I heard from with David Jackson several years ago, which is how the link to the Unplugged 99.7 KYUU Archive got linked to the Bay Area Radio Museum. Nice guy. As far as airchecks go, I have a few -- that I haven't transferred off the 8mm deck yet. Back in the mid '80's, I bought a Sony 8mm VCR that also recorded 24 hours worth of digital PCM stereo tracks -- coincidentally, 6 tracks at 4 hours each -- the length of a typical 4 hour airshift. I recorded several of my shows on that device, so they are complete, unscoped and sound as fresh as the day they were broadcast. The deck broke down on me a few years ago after transferring only a few shows to my computer hard drive, but I recently had it repaired.

For anyone interested, here are a few bits and pieces from my show, circa 1985 as best as I can tell. I'm really not sure of the year.

This should be enough to dispell any nostalgia for my show that anyone may have been harboring.

I can't tell you how weird it makes me feel when somebody says "the '80's were just a bit before my time." Heh. Almost as weird as when a grown adult says "I used to listen to your show when I was a kid". Granted, that doesn't happen very often.

I was just 22 when I was hired at KYUU 25 years ago. Wow.

way to keep in touch! Still north, as you can surmise,
after what was supposed to be a 10 month diversion
over 20 years ago. Can't help it, the area feels like
home to this cosmic orphan.

And, thanks, David, for posting that KYUU check; that
period had slipped my mind. Mind slippage not unusual,
I cannot tell you at this moment where my car keys are.

Contrary to my Zodiac sign, I save practically nothing and
(probably as a defensive armoring) have always considered
my career akin to running water or cellophane packaging -
rather disposable. What Ocean airchecks I do have these days
(and they fill half a closet) are things send to me by
others, most of which I've never listened to. So, when it
happens that I actually hear a clip, I'm always caught by surprise.

Hard not to listen when it's in a Museum, though. (your
site also has that "home" feel to it for me) I remember
many good times at KYUU and had no idea that stint was a
foreshadowing of a future incarnation of KFRC!
