Longtime Sesame Street cast members cut because of contract reasons

it's sad to see these people who have entertain several generations of kids for several decades, but it might be for the best to help keep the budget and at the same time, not have to "kill of" anymore longtime characters of Sesame Street due to fact the actor who played the character died. Sesame Workshop/HBO didn't want to revisit the death of the guy who played Mr. Hopper, the late Will Lee, who died of a heart attack in 1982.

Why can't they cut Elmo?

Seriously, at this rate do you think "The Elmo Show" :) will even make it to its 50th anniversary in November 2019? Or do you think it will make that milestone but barely limp through--or have other major changes? Perhaps no more reruns on PBS entirely, or even retiring some longtime Muppet characters who IMO would still be more identifiable than that annoying red monster? (e.g., what will happen to Big Bird and Oscar when Caroll Spinney retires or moves up to the big "Sesame Street" up above).
