Does anyone know the Address and location of the Legendary Warehouse Club in Chi-Town? What is located their now, What stands on the old spot where the Warehouse once stood? I really want to check this out, and explore the area where it all began. Im hearing Rumours of 3 possible locations, but no facts or proof, that it once stood their. Is the building still their, Am I looking for an abandoned building, an empty lot, or a new building standing where the Warehouse once stood? Thanks a bunch for anyone who can point me in the general direction.

There was a Warehouse night club at 738 W. Randolph in Chicago in the early 90's... I don't know if this was the same as the original or not (I only went there once and it was an experience, nonetheless LOL), because I don't know when it opened. I don't believe the club is there anymore, it closed in the mid 90's... I think it's being used as retail space now. I'm actually a little curious about that now, if I come across any add'l info in the next day or so I'll post it here in the thread.

Another detail I remember about this location... sometime in the mid 90's, the name of the place was changed to the Ferrari Club. I never checked it out but I remember seeing the awning out in front the couple of times I drove by. I don't think it lasted more than a couple of years.

MWC, if you're looking into "House history", take some time and do a search on the forums at www.deephousepage.com. There's a lot of old school cats on there with some amazing knowledge of the scene, some of them were right there in the beginning in Chicago, Detroit, and NY when it all happened.

This is a really good thread to get you started... I think anyone who's a fan of house music really ought to read this (archived from 2001):

Be sure to read through the whole discussion.

Enjoy :)

The orginal Warehouse was around Fulton and Ogden area. I can't remember exactly where. Call the Mars Gallery, they'll know the exact address.

The Warehouse (then ferrari club) was run owned by Rocky Jones of DJ Intl. If you remember back in the early 90s many of B96's live dance parties were broadcast from there.

Look for wbmx.com to become active soon, filled with music from the station that was in rotation from 1981 to 1989, the mixes and more.

The (2nd) Warehouse was indeed a creation of Rocky Jones and crew from DJ International, located @ 738 W. Randolph Street in Chicago. It was conveniently located across the street from the offices of DJ International Records @ 727 W. Randolph. The sound system was AWESOME for such a, smallish space; it was long and narrow and had so much sound, I could have sworn the servo-drive subwoofers in the main room could have shaken the mortar between the bricks loose and toppled the building. Probably better than some of the huge EAW systems in clubs today. The DJ booth was a dream, up high above the main dance floor (kinda like a mezzanine), with enough room for 4 turntables and MANY crates of records should you bring a lot; and plenty of space for whoever was spinning and a few friends as well. I can't remember which mixer was in there, it may have been the Rane set up where you could either use KNOBS, or a crossfader like on an MP24...I got to spin there only once with Joe Smooth; I was busy working other places like Lucky's, China Club, Shelter, Esoteria and others. There was a gallery on the 2nd floor that also was used as another dance environment sometimes; and even the basement was used from time to time as club space. It was a good idea, I don't know why it didn't last. I only know these things as I was at DJI from 1985 to 1991 and ran the record pool for over 6 years.

As far as the Ferrari club - Rocky LOVED Ferraris - probably where the name came from. If I recall, one of his 'recording' alter-egos was "Testarossa", I'm sure someone will correct me if that's incorrect.

Frankie Hollywood Rodriguez might be able to add more to this if/when he checks this section out. OR KJJ...OR....?

Now...the place is a retail space. I think it was an art gallery last time I was in Chicago...

*edit:
If I recall - the original Warehouse was in the west loop, probably near Fulton/Ogden. It was another 3 story building, a juice bar, and could get VERY hot in there from the dancing...and was open until...6 am I think. Memory=foggy.
Hope it helps though. Here are some "House Music" links:

Wow, that's really cool to know about Rocky Jones and The Warehouse/Ferrari club. I always noticed the Randloph St. address on my DJ Int'l 12"s and was perfectly aware of the proximity from that address to the Warehouse - naturally, I wondered if and what the connection was. Now after all these years, I finally have an answer! (Guess I could have asked someone, huh? lol) Thanks for sharing that!

I only got to go into the Randolph St. Warehouse club once... thinking it was '90 or '91. I wish I could remember who was spinning that night, I keep thinking it was Julian Perez but I dunno... as you said, it was long and narrow... I distinctly remember it had a subway tunnel-like feel to it. Man, and the place was dark except for one single strobe, though you could make out the lights from the dj gear upstairs. But yeah I remember the sound was amazing... there was some sort of lounge upstairs and even up there it was pretty loud.

You said the original Warehouse was Fulton & Ogden... I don't know precisely where that's at, but it's gotta be close to where the China Club was at on Fulton. Geez what a mammoth place that was... amazing in its day.
