If anyone has any recordings of that station please let me know. I forgot that it stopped broadcasting last Wednesday.
I do not, but Froggy was a somewhat interesting idea that was started, then all but ignored by MRA. They played a lot of newer, up-and-coming artists, compared to a lot of the newer pop country. A better country station than the crass, obnoxious and over-modulated mess that is WMIL.
However, that's probably the only thing it had going for it. First of all, the idea of putting it on two weak translators, mostly serving the urban areas of Milwaukee and Racine, was pretty ridiculous. Especially going against a powerhouse like IHeart's WMIL, not to mention the two Magnum rimshots in Racine and West Bend, which hit the south and north sides of the market respectively. Then there's WTKM, which superserves the northern suburbs and the Kettle Moraine area with a pretty decent classic country format. And, even going against all that competition, they did absolutely nothing to promote it (perhaps due to the financial problems of the company). As a result, it sat around a tenth of a share. I often wondered, what was the point?
If it were my choice, given that Fonz was pretty much getting crushed by WRXS, I probably would have done some sort of rhythmic classic hits thing, given the coverage of the signal. Country would be the last format I'd do on city translators that can't reach beyond the immediate suburbs. But, if they insisted on doing country, the least they could have done is to let people know it existed.
