Looking for former staff of WIZB in Abbeville/Headland When it was Rock Station.

Hey I am looking for former staff members of WIZB from the mid 90's when it was owned by Jerry Katz and operated as a Rock station. Jason, Chad, and a very beautiful sales girl...seems to me her name was Jennifer...any one know of anyone that worked there?

Jason stayed with it when it was aquired by Radio People as Z105.3. I forgot his last name but he had one of those pukey radio voices.

Who knows what Chad Stoops is up to? He wanted to be in radio so badly but never could cut it. Sounded horrible. Wanted to be a country singer, too.

You might remember Kelly McCann, who was there for a short time. He was the voice of all the Club La Vela spots for a while. Last I heard, he has prostate cancer. Very talented dude.

I would help u out JAMZ..BUT I'am not familier with radio in Henry County :)

LOL it's 10 minutes away from Dothan. And WIZB was always part of the Dothan market. Your post made me laugh. It struck me similar to someone in Dallas saying, "Oh I don't know anything about Ft. Worth radio." Good times.

WIZB frequency is 94.3 and always has been. It was rock/top 40 before turning christian.
Z 105.3 Started out with the calls of WZND then became WBCD Then WDBT Which is what it is now .
Holiday never owned the frequency 94.3 it was always 105.3.

Jason used to work for WTVY in the early 90's before going to WIZB. His last name is Williams or at least that was his radio name.

You are on the right track Peanut.

For those interested:

105.3 actually began life as WUMG licensed to Chattahoochie and then changed to
WBCD while still licensed to Chattahoochie. Re-licensed to Headland still as WBCD.
Then changed to WZND followed by WDBT.

94.3 started out as WARI later WXLE and now WIZB.

I thought it was DJR in the early 90's and before that "Dixie 93" in Blakely

Nope, BBK has been BBK since the dawn of time. (been there done that)

Yes I spent some time at TVY in the 90's with the old crew, it was good times. After that I did head to Z94.3 and stayed on through the transition to the new owners. Then onto BCD for a while, doing some work on DJR. Somewhere in the midst of all that was a brief stint at ESP prior to it being owned by New South.

I had a pukey voice? and McCann did not? Nice! ;D

Last I heard Chad was working for the FD at Napier Field.

To clarify, BBK was WDKZ for a bit in the early 90's to reflect the Dixie 93 moniker. But the calls were changed back to WBBK after the station was purchased by the folks that had the Donalsonville stations.

Well Jason....it's James... contact me at [email protected]...I was your PD under the famous MR. Katz...

Are you the same Jason Williams that was at the Holladay group in Jackson, MS when I was held prisoner of war there for four months in 2000? I was PD/afternoons at WJKK until Eddie lost his mind and took the station back to satellite.

Same to you my friend!

As far as Jen goes, I never heard what happened after she went back to school.

This my first reply on this board, but I have a question. Is this the same station which operated in Abbeville around 70s? The reason I ask is because my father, when he was a policeman in Abbeville, used to DJ at that time, sometime between 1975, and 1980.

My name is Doug McCain (Monks) and I was GM at WIZB in the summer of 1989 when it was a satellite oldies station and located at the corner of hwys 431 and 10 in Abbeville. I had been in Birmingham for 20 years and thought a GM position in a small town would be a good way to relax a little. Since I was there for such a short time I dont even remember who the owner was that I worked for. The reason for my short stay was the fact that we had NO listeners. I had 19 really cool music trivia board games to give away and asked listeners to send in their name and number and we would draw for a winner every week. After the first week, we got no letters. I then changed it and asked for the 5th caller to win a free game valued at $30. We got NO calls at all. NO ONE WAS LISTENING! Then, after asking the owner about petty cash to buy toilet paper for the bathroom, and he told me to take it out of the Coke machine, I knew I had gotten into a bad situation. Luckily a friend from Birmingham had just moved to Dothan as PD of a new station called WESP scheduled to go on the air in 2 weeks. They hired me to do afternoons and after about 8 months the owners shipped me to Tuscaloosa to build and run a new Classic Rock station called "The Tide" WTID. Abbeville was an interesting experience.
