Looking for Soft Rock Stations

Here's one you might like: http://radioez.net

Today's music on the station consists of coffeehouse songs and singers. Examples:
Landon Pigg - Falling In Love At The Coffee Shop
Colbie Caillat
Jason Mraz

Roar is annoying to me - why? Because ACs air it 3 times a day every day just like Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons and some burnt-to-a-crisp Cyndi Lauper song called "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".

-crainbebo

It's annoying to me because I'm more into melody than repetitive beats and Auto-Tune.

One I'm planning to check out after the Christmas switch: http://mradio105fm.com/

They are planning to have soft rock favorites from George Harrison, Otis Redding, and on up to Katy Perry.

Canadian soft rock stations

CKUE "Lite FM" 95.1 FM Chatham, ON / 100.7 FM Windsor, ON/Detroit:
http://litefm.ca (stream available)
No Gaga, Katy, Rihanna or Bruno, very little Taylor Swift, but some of the more recent Canadian content they play is a tad edgy, especially more recent songs like "Stompa" by Serena Ryder. Otherwise, typical artists you'll hear include Richard Marx, Gloria Estefan, Simon & Garfunkel, Amy Grant, Carpenters, Celine Dion, Fleetwood Mac and Josh Groban. They sound nothing like WNIC (when WNIC isn't playing Christmas music that is).

CKOT "Easy 101" 101.3 FM Tillsonburg/London, ON
www.easy101.com (stream available)
One of Canada's last holdouts in the traditional B/EZ format. They now feature a wide-ranging soft AC mix with music from the '60s through today and a few instrumentals still left in. The music has become slightly more contemporary in recent years but remains fairly soft.

The "Jewel" stations around Ontario (CKDX 88.5 FM Newmarket/Toronto, CJWL 98.5 FM Ottawa, CKPC 92.1 FM Brantford/Hamilton and several others, plus one in Winnipeg and one to go on to air soon, if it isn't already, in the Montreal area)
http://www.jewelradio.com/
The daytime format I kind of describe as an "AC Jack FM" kind of mix - more uptempo than Easy 101, but softer than your typical mainstream AC. It's more of a soft classic hits format spanning the '60s through the '90s with a few more recent songs and very few currents. Evening programming syndicated across all the Jewel stations includes a standards show and even an hour of traditional B/EZ fare.

- Used to post on here as ChrisInMI (for some reason I'm not able to log in or even register for a new account because it says the app is not set up for Facebook login, and I wasn't even trying to use Facebook to log in... *sigh*)

Company that owns the Lite 105 station: http://stormsignalradio.com/

Sister stations owned by that company:

Rewind 100.3: http://kliteac.com/
A Classic Hits station

Mix 105: http://mix105indy.com/
A Mainstream AC station

Been checking out the Mix 105 station. Plays 70's through today. Will begin playing some Christmas after Thanksgiving. Is half mellow music, half upbeat/edgy music. The upbeat/edgy music is hit and miss.

Came across this station when I was checking airplay for some singers I like on Tunein.com: http://www.channelztheedge.com/

The station claims on Tunein.com to play both Lite AC and Hot AC. Every time I've tuned in so far, I've heard Lite AC.

Was just looking through the Facebook page of the Channel Z The Edge station. In a post from August 2011 it was mentioned that the station played "Renegade" by Styx followed by "The Way We Were" by Barbra Streisand. LOL!

Ah! I understand the claim now. It's certain Hot AC songs/artists mixed in with the Lite AC songs/artists. Here's an example from this morning from Tunein.com:

Lady Love Me - George Benson
Sister Golden Hair - America
Colors Of The Wind - Vanessa Williams
I'll Still Be Loving You - Restless Heart
All Of You - Julio Iglesias
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Only In My Dreams - Debbie Gibson
Over You - Daughtry ------------------> this is the Hot AC song/artist in the set
I Go Crazy - Paul Davis

I just listened to that song. I've never heard it before. While it could fit a Hot AC playlist, it would be perfectly at home on Mainstream AC as well. Since that's the only Hot AC song you mentioned, it seems to me that "Free bird" is a bit hard for the Soft AC side.

I've never heard "Free Bird" but I singled "Over You" out because I'm familiar with that one. It was released in 2007. It was #18 on Billboard Hot 100, #3 on Hot AC, #4 on Mainstream Top 40, and #16 on Mainstream AC.

A combo of the Behind The Mic page (http://www.channelztheedge.com/_html/main/mainMic.html) and the about page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ChannelZtheEdge/info?ref=page_internal) describes it best - a mix of Soft Rock and Contemporary Hits, some Classic Rock and some Country.

Besides some country, most of the current music I've heard so far on the station is the guitar-driven sounds that were popular on AC between 2000-2010. Have yet to hear any of the rhythmic sounds that are popular on AC now.

Classic Rock aficionados are scratching their heads in amazement, as we speak! Here's the original version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0W1v0kOELA Here's "Will to Power"'s medley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blcpPDGCWUo Thank you, YouTube!

Lynyrd Skynyrd is classified as Southern Rock. That's something my parents weren't into during the 60s and 70s so I didn't have any exposure to that. My parents were more into pop rock.

It should be noted that in musical taxonomy, which is not an exact science in the first place, "Southern Rock" is a relatively high-tier breakdown. With the broad category "Southern Rock", which usually describes bands, individual songs might be further classified as Blues Rock, Ballad, Power Ballad, etc. A good Adult Contemporary station would pay more attention to the song's classification than to the band's.
