Looks like 3 stations are up for sale in the Columbus area

Full service AM station with FM Translators in Central Ohio for sale. These are privately owned stations that have been operated by the same family for the last 32 years are up for sale. They are all competitively located on the dial, profitable and currently broadcast in and around the central Ohio area. Please call (740)708-3700 for more details

WLOH?

Not exactly Columbus but the only station I know that fits what you state (AM signal with translators)

I called the number and the three stations are: AM660 WXIC, WXIZ 100.9 a country station and WXZQ 100.1 a hits channel. Even though they are in Waverly what's interesting is that the 660 license has directional capability from as far north as the northern Columbus suburbs so a good engineer could really boost the signal out there. Don't know what you'd do with the other 2 FM's but the guy I spoke with seemed to really emphasize the value of WXIC being at 660 right in between WTVN 610 and 700 WLW. It's currently a southern gospel format but I guess a News Talk and/or Sports format with the directional antenna set up somewhere around Columbus with the proper engineering could really be valuable. Wonder if WYTS at 1230 or WBNS 1460 would want to get out of their current spots and move down the dial to be directly between WTVN 610 and WLW 700?

WXIC is 1000w daytime only, and wouldn't really be much of a player in the columbus market

I asked about that and its apparently by choice not by FCC mandate or interference. Their christian programs only run during the day and they are funded by donations so they don't have a reason at this time in their current state to broadcast late. I imagine like I was told with the proper engineering this could really be a good opportunity for someone unlike myself who knows what they are doing from the engineering side of things.

I don't see these as Columbus stations... WXIC will never be a columbus station, oh and its a class D licensed as a daytimer only... I don't see them being able to get any nighttime coverage.. and if they could.. I doubt it would be enough to cover more than a few miles if their lucky (see WGNZ dayton with their 2 watts at night) AM 660 is co channel with WFAN NYC... im pretty sure they sign off at night to protect WFAN.

If that was the case, WRFD 880 would be able to be licensed at Night. WCBS-AM 880 is also in NYC.
There is no way WXIC will get any Nighttime authorization..
Maybe a couple of WATTS but certainly is not worth the bother...

Are they saying you can move the tower to Columbus and make it a Columbus station?

That's what I was told because of the directional capability. Again I am no engineer but based on what the individual I spoke with said they could move it as far as northern Columbus. I called back and left another message earlier looking for more detailed information on this as to why they think it would work in Columbus but haven't heard back.

Might be in dreamland a bit about a potential move in to Columbus. Thyey may be able to get some flea power night authorization that would promptly be killed by WFAN. The FMs arfe going to have to stay where they are. Best move would be to keep them as is...Chillicothe is nearby but it's already full of stations.

My guess is that whomever is brokering this is hyping these signals.. Clearly WXIC needs to stay in Southern Ohio.. and will never have any nighttime power that makes it a player.. (again it has to protect WFAN's big signal) ... which is why it is a daytimer to begin with..

Clearly there is a mis understanding too.. They label "WXZQ and WXIZ" as translators. Both are Class As!

WXZQ 261 A FM 100.1 MHz LIC PIKETON OH US BLH-19971210KD - 15920 6. kW 100. m 3.93 km 2.44 mi 142.69°

WXIZ 265 A FM 100.9 MHz LIC WAVERLY OH US BLH-5076 - 14651 0.92 kW 152. m 10.60 km 6.59 mi 355.66°

Yep, someone is definitely hyping these, and doesn't even know what they have.

The two FM's are Class A's and are not going to be able to be moved anywhere. Especially not north, due to adjacent signals in the area (WOSA and WCLT).

The AM is 1000 watts, NON-Directional, Daytime only. I suppose it could be moved to Columbus, but may have to protect WHLO 640 in Akron. No way at all that anyone is going to get any nighttime authorization on it at all due to NYC.

Right now, the FM stations are automated with Dial-Global's "Hits Now" format on 100.1 and some satellite country format on 100.9. The AM runs gospel music and paid preaching. The two FM's air some sports, high school football and basketball games, and Chillicothe Paints baseball on 100.9.
